Happy Monday. 🫶🏽

I am honored that my giclée print of my “Immigrants Make American Great” found a home at @regaliasdigitalesofficial office in Lafayette. It’s so exciting to know that my piece now lives on a wall with gold albums from Manu Chao and Carlos Santana, — two of my favorite artists! Gracias @joshnorkek for supporting my art. 🫶🏽

My piece was on display at the Bedford Gallery’s summer exhibition “CALeidoscope: Evolving Reflections of California” that ran from July 11 to September 13, 2026, and it was one of the few protest pieces.

I make art inspired by my youth and what’s happening in the world. I make art to share. I make art to soothe my soul.

Here’s the back story on this piece:
When I was a child, my dad made a terrible investment with an acquaintance who needed money. My dad said to him, “sell oranges on the street! I’ll buy them and you sell them.” This person didn’t show up and our family got stuck with a whole truckload of oranges.

Guess who sold oranges on Melrose and La Brea? Me! My sister! My brother! My cousins and my mom, uncle and aunts. It was exhausting but it’s a core memory on how my dad didn’t let this investment rot. I remember how my dad had some obnoxious business ideas but he always tried to help others.

I am the proud daughter of a Nicaraguan man who overstayed his student visa and a beautiful Guatemalan woman who sought a better life. Spanish was my first and only language until I started kindergarten. I was an ESL kid for two years! I am proud of my crazy upbringing as it’s part of my immigrant family story

I loved this show so much, and I was fascinated by the medium. There are cute kittens, but also tufting pieces about gun violence and ocean ecology and feminism. I don’t think I’ve ever been out to Walnut Creek before, but the Bedford Gallery was totally worth it. Thank you so much to curator Emilee Enders and artists Johannah Herr and Jennifer Banzaca for talking with me. And thank you to my editor for letting me do this and, as usual, careful editing. @bedfordgallery @jennifer.banzaca @johannah_herr @7x7bayarea @shoshiparks
