The Rockaway Beach Branch LIRR line has sat abandoned since it closed in 1962. As trees and shrubbery have inhabited the space, two opposing groups of advocates have emerged:

QueensLink, @thequeenslink, wants to see rail service restored to the corridor, including four new stations, as well as a park with bike paths, pedestrian paths, and recreation areas.

QueensWay, @qwaynyc, doesn’t think the MTA is restoring rail anytime soon. They’re advocating for a park without any sort of train line. Some advocates have compared the QueensWay plan to Manhattan’s popular High Line park.

Despite long term support for QueensLink, Mayor Mamdani’s administration @nycmayor has decided to move ahead with $43 million in funding for QueensWay.

A New York State Trooper was ARRESTED in New Jersey after visiting a strip club while he should have been on duty. This cop is part of a larger group of police who were repeatedly paid for work patrolling MTA bridges and tunnels in New York City... that they never did.

The eight troopers remain among the highest paid cops in New York State, averaging pay of around $180,000 annually.

These new benches appeared on Third Street in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village the other week, and they look a little different from the typical bench you’d find around NYC. That’s because these benches are made out of unused materials from a sea wall project down on Staten Island.

Now, they’re adding some great seating to the neighborhood where there previously were just parked cars.

New York State just passed legislation that would force drivers who are caught speeding 16 times in a year to install a speed-limiting device in their car, similar to an ignition interlock breathalyzer if you’re caught drinking and driving.
