For years I coordinated weddings and produced farm to table events of all sizes. I always had a dream to host a beautiful and locally sourced meal on my own farm and well, now we are! Thank you to Chef Carissa and @ionluciantoma for collaborating with me to make this possible! 🍽️🥂✨ #ozarkfarmtotable #ozarkepicurean #sunandbloomfarms #farmtotable #fallequinox

Water Rituals 💙💦 Celestial summer heat draws water from our bodies, plants, and soil. Water quenches our thirst, brings fluidity back, supports life, and cleanses our bodies and spirits. We don’t have a swimming pond yet here at the farm, but we do have outdoor showers Lucian constructed. He took a shelter created to store hay in the pasture and retrofitted it into our blissful showering spot. It truly transports you! I felt like I was back in California swimming in the cold ocean water. It has become our nightly ritual to cool off and cleanse ourselves before sitting down together for dinner. Outdoor showers are easier than you think. Would you like a tutorial on how to build? Leave a comment 🚿 #outdoorshower #homestead #sunandbloomfarms

Community Supported Herbalism 💜 Thank you to all who purchased a Summer Herbal CSA 🌱 We were able to sell all the shares and send healing plant power out into the world! We are committed to bio-regional herbalism, which means exploring and courting the medicine available to us in our region/watershed. We are committed to sustainable herbalism, growing as much as we can for our family’s needs and for our community. Now more than ever, we need to turn to the land for healing and learning, both from planting seeds and romancing the land around us, to quietly listening to her lessons. We feel really proud to offer simple, yet powerful preparations of these plants to jump start you or assist you in your journey with herbalism. Getting to know plants individually, gives you a more solid foundation to understand their properties, energetics, and applications. We are now accepting sign ups for both fall and winter CSA Herbal Shares. $45 (per season) reserves your share of 3 plant powered creations and dried herbs to use in your own home. Also included are information on each plant and suggested recipes to inspire. Why pay ahead? CSA gives farmers financial support ahead of the harvest to help with costs of growing, harvest, and packaging. As always, all ingredients will come from our region/watershed or tended by our loving hands at the farm. We use @temeculaoliveoilcompany olive oil from their trees down the street, and beeswax from our beehives. Pure. Simple. Powerful. Send us a DM @beekeepingmama to reserve you shares. PS WE CAN SHIP TOO Thank you to @findingmylost for the great labels and @jessbeewild for our logo! 💙 #bioregionalherbalism #plantpower #csa #communitysupportedherbalism #herbalism #farming #highdesertfarming

Community is our anchor 🌱 Repairing environmental damage, societal fractures, and internal heartache starts with returning to the land. Grounding into nature and her rhythms. Once there, we can find meaning again in relationships and our personal work. Accelerated healing comes when we do all of this in community. 🌼 Desert Bloom is far from the idyllic and advanced farms like Stonebarns but it is grounded in authenticity and reverence. It’s mission is to nourish the land, community, and its inhabitants. 🌸 We invite you to join us on our Farm Days where we’ll offer tours of the operations, play with baby goats, work together on some farm tasks, teach you something new, and of course be in community. Save this post for the dates, 10:00am - 3:00pm: March 14th April 11th May 23rd Camping may be available, please inquire. Please rsvp using the form via link in our bio. Our property is adjacent to the Nance Canyon entrance of Anza Borrego. From there you can enjoy scenic views and beautiful trails. We hope to see you out here 🙏🏼 #farmdays #workonthefarm #anzaborrego #permaculture #highdesert #community

Water Guardians 💧 Black Cottonwood Populus balsamifera Member of the Willow family, can grow 100 ft tall, fuzzy fruits in spring and early summer looking like a light snowfall, fast growing, inhabiting riperian zones especially along streams, and beautiful golden leaves that fall in autumn. 🍂 The buds and bark are highly medicinal. Indigenous practices teach us that the buds, which contain a resin, is powerful in healing cuts, scrapes, and inflamed painful tissue. Energetically cooling, drying, astringent and bitter. It is also anti-microbial, diaphoretic, expectorant, and anti-inflammatory. Effective in respiratory ailments such as bronchitis and stubborn phlegm. 🍂 “If this tree medicine acts as a representative of the waters of nature, it certainly works similarly in human physiology; it brings the waters in or plays an important role for water-transport in the organs, most notably the kidneys, lungs, and skin. Indeed, Cottonwood is a sign of relieving water nearby, water to come, or a way of moving water out of the body.” - Adrian White 🍂 A truly magical plant that gives so much to the ecosystem around it. We are grateful to be amongst these beauties and I cannot wait to share the first Cottonwood salves from Desert Bloom with you. 💙

The forest at Desert Bloom 🍂 Through the property, a beautiful stream once flowed for many years. As expected, Cottonwoods, Mule Fat, and Willows found their ways to the banks of the stream, as they are amazing water indicators. Even though this stream no longer flows due to land manipulation in the watershed, it is possible to bring it back with earth works and permaculture design. For now, we appreciate the presence of these beautiful Cottonwood trees as they continue to provide habitat, food, medicine, and erosion control for the land and its animals. This little forest is also the backdrop for our camping sites for visitors and students staying for programming. Sleeping next to these gentle giants is a real blessing.
