Mean Streak!

My most recent project was this 1984 lugged Diamondback from the early days of Japanese-made MTB/ATBs. This one was sitting at a used sporting goods store in Colorado Springs for $65.

There was a healthy assortment of fun builds and townies at Loveboat’s annual Hacky-sack Tournament, so naturally I had to snag a couple photos; and what better bike to get some pics of than Ian’s Wolbis Slugstone!

This Rivendell “Susie Longbolts” is filled with character and charm with every component. A friction shifter with Wolf Tooth’s pull ratio adapter attached to a Sram Apex derailleur and cassette makes for a perfect pairing of old school shifting with a modern gear range. Some mismatched XTR v brakes and Paul components levers add some color pop to the cockpit, with Ian’s specialty made bags adding plenty of hand sewn convenience. Some custom made Coos bars add compliance for the bumps, with some Vittoria Mezcals rounding out this Missoula style X-bike, perfect for everything from commuting to single-track shredding to days long bike packing trips!

Been a bit of a lapse in work this year so I figured I’d give myself a personal project and frame swap to this super cool Sterling.
Thing has a much shorter wheelbase than the Stump so maybe I’ll be able to wheelie now 😅
