Tehran is living with the accumulated consequences of a century of imbalanced growth.
Rapid industrialization, continuous migration, and decades of reactive and unregulated development have weakened the city’s ecological networks. Historic gardens and resilient landscapes have been replaced by fragmented, water-intensive green spaces, while access to healthy public environments has become increasingly unequal.
This project responds to four interconnected challenges: the severe lack of green space, weak social and communal environments, critically high air-pollution levels, and the major shortage of parking in District 12.
It proposes an organic and adaptive system within Tehran’s rigid urban fabric. Green space is reimagined as distributed, accessible, and participatory—an active system in which people engage with nature rather than simply observe it. Parking is also transformed from a leftover space into a functional layer connecting mobility, collective life, and ecological performance.
Rooted in our lived experience of Tehran and its rapidly deteriorating air quality, the proposal aims not only to respond to the city’s current crises, but to restore ecological, social, and economic sustainability to everyday urban life.
