Our Fall Course Writing in the Matriarchy is underway, and it is anchored by a group of truly amazing Fellows. First, I am honored and excited to welcome Melissa Blount! I first saw Melissa Blount's brilliance when I watched her interview the extraordinary @prentishemphill. I had spent all week at typical literary events, which were intellectual and excellent, but that never questioned the self-interest behind the whole charade. I arrived tired, wondering if I had the energy for yet another reading, and then the evening healed me. It cracked me open into greater softness, humanity, and light. I watched as Melissa asked questions from a place of genuine inquiry, respect, and vulnerability, and unfolded a conversation that was itself a form of personal, ancestral, and cultural healing. That's what this is all about! We have the capacity to shift our culture moment by moment, just in the way we hold space for one another to tell the truth in conversation and on the page. I am thrilled that Melissa is doing this as one of the Fellows leading breakout rooms in my course. Later, I was honored to have Melissa interview me about my own book. She arrived with my manuscript packed with about 50 post it notes (girl after my own heart) and asked questions that were illuminating, human, and honest. I have also attended her collaborative quilting workshops that bring women together to stitch and commemorate Black women who have been lost to domestic violence. It is not easy to be awake in this world, to feel the historical and present-day injustices so acutely. We need our sisters in this process, and need to help each other reach the next level of healing and awareness. Thank you to Melissa Blount for being a truly beautiful part of this Fall Course!

In just a few weeks, I fly to Thin Ice Press in York, UK to work with historic DeLittle pantographs and type patterns! I’ll have 8 weeks to do cataloging and try to get the pantograph cutting type again. What a thrilling use of my type cutting experience!

A heartily saw-dusted (but completely hypoallergenic) ‘thank you’ to those who have inspired me (they're tagged). This is the first wave of gratitude going out to people whose energy, creativity, and encouragement were crucial in getting me to this point. Stay tuned for additional waves of gratitude coming ashore!
