Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the third annual Pittsburgh Jewish Zine Festival at @mr_roboto_project! We saw our biggest turnout yet and had an absolute blast sharing pickles, art, learning, & DJ Meddyglyn’s ambiance with yinz.

This year, we raised $917 at our merch table to donate to @gazasoupkitchen, over TRIPLE last year’s total. We are so incredibly proud of our steadily growing community and the impact we can make together.

Watch this space; copies of our collaborative zine Atzmeinu (Our Bones) will be going up for online sale very soon.

This years' shirts are HOT! Check out the hand lettered English, Yiddish and Ladino design courtesy of @beislakish and @elijahjbay. We have a variety of sizes and colors, screen printed and heat set by yours truly! Come get them at our official merch table and help us raise money for mutual aid in Palestine! We've made less than last year, so be sure and visit while the zines are hot and the pickles are still cold...

The Pittsburgh Zine Fest is Sunday, August 30th, from 1pm-5pm at The Mr Roboto Project.

A huge thanks to Dade Lemanski and @gdframbuaz for their Yiddish and Ladino skills, respectively. Getting to display Jewish Zine Fest in two different Jewish diasporic languages is really meaningful to us!!! And thanks to @that.maddie for teaching us screenprinting and troubleshooting so many transparencies!!!

The entire point of Talmud study is to understand that Torah belongs to you.

All of you.

Not only to rabbis, not only to those who know Hebrew really well, not to those who study every single day.

But to all of us.

📖 Learning for Liberation: A Shavuot All-Night Study In 📖
📆 from Fri, 5/22 at 11 pm to dawn!
📍Bantha Tea Bar, 5002 Penn Ave.

—

On the holiday of Shavuot, it’s customary to stay up all night studying Torah. We’re putting our own spin on this tradition with a drop-in, all-night text study ft. various Jewish and secular texts that we consider to be fertile ground for liberatory interpretation & discussion. Political education is foundational to the work of collective liberation, and also, we love getting in spirited, late-night arguments.

Friends from @beislakish , @rmlpgh , @talmudmagic , etc. will be facilitating text studies, but please also feel free to bring your own zines, articles, source sheets, etc. for solo or group study. If you want, you can bring a dairy (yes, it’s a Shavuot thing) or vegan snack to share.

Anyone respectful of the (always queer, anti-zionist, etc.) space’s intentions is welcome. Come anytime, leave anytime. Loose schedule TBA.

Accessibility: Bantha is wheelchair accessible. Because we’ll be indoors, we ask that you wear a high-quality (N95, KN95, or KF94) mask when not eating or drinking tea. If you’re sick, are testing positive for COVID, and/or have had close contact (ex. a a housemate) with COVID, please sit this one out. We’d love to see you next time!

Jastrow dictionaries from the past 20 years are notoriously poorly bound and their cases fall apart with use - my beloved well-turned copy finally gave way, so I built it a new home, complete with some of my favourite marbled papers
