POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Shane grew up on athletics and team sports. With fewer sporting commitments as an adult, the gym has become his way of staying fit and active. “I also believe keeping active is one of the keys to ageing well.”

He knew exactly what he wanted from a gym. “Anytime Fitness Kent Terrace is a welcoming, friendly, clean gym that fosters a respectful community. Things I value the most in a gym.”

Since joining in 2023, the biggest change for Shane has been his mindset. Living with a chronic illness, he used to find it hard to stay consistent on the days he wasn’t feeling strong. “With some help from one of the PTs (shout out to CJ!), I’ve learnt that consistency really is key and anything is better than nothing.”

“I used to have a lot of gym anxiety,” he says, “related to not feeling 100% while training, especially with chest press.” As his confidence grew, incline press and the chest fly quickly became two of his favourites.

His advice for anyone yet to take the first step: “Keep as consistent as you can. If that looks like one gym session a week, great! The hardest part of building healthy habits is starting.”

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Shane 🙏 Being this open about your experience could make a real difference for someone who’s feeling anxious about getting started 💯

5km time trial - 17:22

Good hit out with the crew this morning 🤝

7 second PB. Pretty stoked considering how bad my back was a few weeks ago. Update to come on that this week.

I know I’m faster though. I reckon I’ve got a sub 17 in me. My tall and slightly chubby 94kg frame is not currently built for speed so will work on that.

Good week of testing, setting some baseline markers. Looking forward to throwing everything into this training block.

Operation get less fat and more in shape starts now 🤪

The benchmark was set.

Our Elite athletes delivered an incredible display of speed, strength, and grit, pushing the pace from the opening zone right through to the finish line.

Congratulations to our Elite champions
@r.murfetpt and @calypsosheridan 🥇

To every athlete who stepped into the Elite Wave, thank you for putting on a race worth watching. The standard continues to rise, and we're excited to see what's next.

Who do you want to see on the Elite start line at the next DEKA?

What a weekend!

Hundreds of athletes on the floor, more DEKA Marks than we could count, a stack of PBs and Australia’s first ever DEKA Ultra.

To every athlete who stepped onto the DEKA floor: thank you for showing up and leaving it all out there. You brought the energy from the first zone to the last.

To our DEKA Crew, referees, and everyone working behind the scenes, thank you.

These events don’t happen without you. You’re the reason the whole thing runs.

A huge thanks to the team at @move_shepparton for hosting us again. What an incredible venue to race at!

And to our DEKA community, thank you for getting behind us.

Whether you raced, volunteered or cheered from the sidelines. You built an atmosphere we won’t forget. First-timers and seasoned competitors, DEKA FIT and MILE and STRONG, however you took part, this one was special.

We’ll see you on the DEKA floor very soon.
