In my GSPrime :)

I will never fully be able to explain what these five weeks have meant to me. These are only a few of the countless memories I’ve made, but each one is irreplaceable. This opportunity has completely changed the way I connect with others. I’m leaving with lifelong friends, countless deep conversations, and a community I never thought I’d find. I will forever wish I could relive these past 50,000 minutes, but I’ll cherish them for the rest of my life. Thank you to everyone I’ve met, laughed with, cried with, and to everyone who made GSP feel like home. GSP, you will be missed :(

Thank you to my newfound friends, to the staff —my teachers, the RAs, the office staff and campus directors—, to Ms. Linda at the omelette station, and to my loved ones back home for supporting me both up close and from afar. without the wonderful people in my life, new or old, i would not have found myself at GSP. i wouldn’t have connected, spoken up and out, or built the community (BUZZWORD) that i have now. i will forever deeply cherish all 50,000 of these minutes spent together.

These past 50,000 minutes with the Governor’s Scholars Program at Centre College have been made so amazing by all of the incredible people here who have uplifted my experience by creating this community. Thank all of you for making this so remarkable. I love you GSP!

🧶My Kairos Moment🧶

A lot of this weekend we were learning about our why and our purpose. When this was first brought up I really had no clue what either was for me. We talked about a kairos moment. “The moment when the right circumstances, timing, and action perfectly align to spark change/transformation.” An event that only could be the result of a miracle. With people who logically would never have met. Leading to a moment that above all odds, happened. When I was a sophomore in high school and I got called down to the office I would have never anticipated that this is where it would’ve led me. I walked into Berea College on June 5, 2022, at 16 years old knowing no one. I was terrified and all I wanted to do was go home or be anywhere but at a seminar. As the weekend progressed I got to know people and soon enough I didn’t ever want to leave the people I had met a few days earlier. The staff was talking about coming back to volunteer and as much as it impacted me I wasn’t sure if I wanted to because I still didn’t know really anyone outside of my C1 group. As the year progressed and we got farther and farther away from the day I walked on that campus I had things happen to me along with making a lot of bad decisions and had the idea I had of HOBY ruined to where I didn’t have the option to return in 2023. I had lost just about everyone in my life and while trying to build back what I once had HOBY found me again. For the last 3 years I’ve volunteered with HOBY and I wouldn’t change that for the world. While life still happens with both the good and the bad HOBY is one of the very few constants. While some volunteers and ambassadors may walk away and forget what was built, I’m walking away with confidence. Confidence that no matter how many people in the world may dislike me for who I am there will always be a group that will. Confidence that I can do anything I put my mind to. i am so beyond grateful for the opportunity to come back as a hoby volunteer. hoby showed me that i can make a difference in my community and no matter how small it is it helps. the fact that i got to come back and help more youth realize how impactful they can be means the world to me. i truly love each and every person i have met through hoby and the feeling of community that i was able to help build. all heart 🤟🤟
