The Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is widely considered the sweet spot of Porsche’s mid-engine lineup. It combines everyday usability with a raw, driver-focused experience, highlighted by its naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine—something increasingly rare in modern sports cars—which produces about 394 horsepower, revs to around 7,800 rpm, and delivers smooth, linear power with an aggressive exhaust note that enthusiasts love; it comes with either a 6-speed manual for a more engaging, purist feel or a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch for quicker acceleration (around 0–60 mph in roughly 3.9 seconds), and its mid-engine layout provides exceptional balance, sharp steering, and confidence-inspiring handling that make it feel more connected and precise than many more powerful cars, while the GTS trim adds performance-focused upgrades like sport exhaust, adaptive suspension (PASM), Sport Chrono package, larger wheels, and a more aggressive interior with Race-Tex materials; despite being a true sports car, it remains surprisingly practical with front and rear cargo space and decent fuel economy for its class, though it requires premium gas and can become expensive quickly with options, often pushing the price well beyond $100k, but it holds value well and is often seen as the ideal middle ground in the Cayman lineup—more exciting and emotional than the turbocharged base and S models but more comfortable and livable than the track-focused GT4—making it one of the best all-around driver’s cars available today, especially for those who prioritize feel, sound, and balance over outright straight-line speed.
