It’s not really about the backpack. It’s about the time capsule the backpack represents.

As I’ve been moving things in, consolidating boxes of keepsakes & deciding what stays and what goes, I found one of Kiana’s old cheer backpacks.

I don’t think anyone has gone through this thing since probably 2021 or 2022. The Sour Patch Kids gum expired in 2023, so that feels like a pretty solid clue. 😂

I’ve gone through probably five of Bella’s old backpacks during this move, and every time I sit down to do it, I get so excited because I never know what I’m going to find.

Old socks. KT tape for injuries. Bobby pins. Bows. Beef jerky sticks. Gum. Enough hand sanitizer to open my own store. 😂 Old journals where they wrote about the John Wooden Pillars of Success & what they were learning.

Then there are the things that instantly take me back.

This backpack has keychains from old teams & Lokai bracelets on top of Lokai bracelets. Remember those?! The kids HAD to have them. Every color meant something. Camo for Enchanted. Red, white & blue for USA. Purple for their cheer gym.

There’s probably $200-$300 worth of bracelets hanging on this one backpack. 😂 The wild things we spent money on because it was what our kids were into.

But it made me think about the 13 years we spent in All-Star cheerleading & how incredibly thankful I am.

The memories, the travel, the friendships. The wins & losses. The injuries, the discipline, the commitment. The life lessons & pillars instilled in them.

The coaches who poured into my girls & helped raise them in ways their dad & I never could have done on our own.

In my opinion, putting our girls into All Star cheer was absolutely one of the best decisions we ever made for them. It gave them such a beautiful life & gave our entire family memories I’ll treasure forever. I’d say take me back, but I have the memories beautifully stored in my heart ❤️.

Typical Bella wanted NONE of her old backpacks. 😂 But Kiana wanted this one saved. The backpack, the keychains, the Lokais…all of it.

And I’m so glad she did.

Because it’s not really an old backpack.

It’s an entire chapter of our lives zipped up inside of one. 💛
