Soooo… a few weeks ago I had the PLEASURE of returning to Grolloo, for a week of more flute playing than genuinely I think anyone had thought was possible. It was tiring… but I don’t think anyone would’ve changed it for the world.

I thought I’d share a few clips of some of the moments that were made through the week, and first up is a little snippet of a performance that really meant the world to me. This trio is Curves, composed by Ian Clarke, our professor and flute #icon who asked myself and the fab Lara to play it alongside him. Having worked for so many years on the flute, playing Ian’s music, working so hard to try and get through the door into the Guildhall, being able to share a stage with both Ian, and the SO talented @lara.aisha.flute, was a moment that really touched me and served as one of those all important reminders to be proud of the progress I have made ❤️

now THIS was a moment and a half. as im sure many will have seen already, @lara.aisha.flute and I have been working on this for a while, and it was SUCH a pleasure to groove out with such a high caliber musician.
originally for two bass clarinets, this is Marc Mellits’ composition called Black. We arranged it for two CB Flutes not really knowing what to expect, and the result ended up being something I think we both were kinda in awe of.

i had the absolute pleasure to be asked by @bellebrunson to join in and be part of this absolute GORGEOUS arrangement (which she wrote?!?) of a folk tune called The Parting Glass… it was such a poignant musical moment that really was such a pleasure to be a part of and share with everybody

furthermore… the amazing and wonderful @kemtage1907 also gave us the joy of being able to share in a performance for not one, not two, not three… but FOUR contrabass flutes. Capturing the atmosphere of Stonehenge and feeling the weight and stillness of these flutes with a group of such talented musicians was such a privilege, and I think gave everyone a moment of still we didn’t know we needed.

another little snippet from a series of jams in the local countryside… lettin loose and gettin #GROOVY

@katywherryflute then joined us for a rendition of Its Raining Men..

'The Woods' by Melisse Markesteijn written for the Piccolo concert for Guildhall this year. It was lots of fun to write and to conduct! And thank you to Belle Brunson, Louis Mintrim, Laoise Corrigan, Kiera Exall, Emily Moores and Daniel Pengelly for playing it and for Sarah Newbold for organising it!
