Programming at our 4th Annual Basecamp kicked off in partnership with @conservationalliance with TCA Board Member Ben MacAskill, President & COO of @smugmug / @flickr. Ben presented a Brands for Public Lands Workshop for our members and covered how TCA is working to push back against the Federal Administration on public lands roll backs like Chuckwalla National Monument and standing up against repealing the USFS Roadless Rule and BLM Public Lands Rule. These initiatives are not only important for conservation, but outdoor recreation protection is a key focus as well. After partnering with TCA on the launch of our Impact on Tap Happy Hour series, this was our third event we partnered with TCA on and we are excited to see where the partnership continues in 2026. Thanks to TCA for sending Ben and to Ben for lending his time and knowledge to us at Basecamp! #WeKeepItWild 📷: @wuerker

Event Recap🔁 We’re still buzzing from the incredible turnout of our first-ever “Nuestra Tierra, Nuestro Futuro: 5 Year Anniversary Gala” in Santa Fe on Friday. In just five years, we have grown from a grassroots idea into a nationally recognized leader in conservation and we couldn’t have done it alone. The unwavering support from our friends, fellow organizers, and community partners have helped make our vision a reality — ensuring historically and deliberately excluded communities have access to the outdoors, and that our history, values, and voices are authentically reflected in public land, water and wildlife decisions.  We were honored to recognize community champions like Deb Haaland @secdebhaaland , Stephanie Garcia Richard @nm.land.office , Teresa Martinez @tamartinez2003 and Angelica Rubio who represent and serve our communities with their entire hearts. Special thanks to our event sponsors: Flickr @flickr Streeter Law Firm @streeterlawfirm Green Latinos @greenlatinos Western Resources Advocates @westernresourceadvocates New Mexico Wild @nmwilderness Turner Foundation Inc. @turnerfdninc Youth Outdoor Policy Playbook The Semilla Project @thesemillaproject La Semilla Food Center @lasemillafoodcenter EarthJustice @earthjustice With your support for our five year gala, we raised critical funds that will allow us to grow our programs, restore and protect public lands, and create meaningful outdoor experiences for communities that have historically and deliberately been excluded. To our community members, volunteers, storytellers, and advocates — thank you. Your energy and vision make this work possible.  Here’s to the next five years where together, we will continue building a future where conservation is inclusive, equitable, and rooted in the voices of those who have always cared for these lands and waters.

When we bought our house 12 years ago, our #1 priority was proximity to family. We got our wish and my kids have grown up within a 2 mile radius of two of my husband’s three siblings and their families and my husband’s parents. While there have been hard times, and family dynamics can be difficult to navigate, the most incredible part has been that my kids have always had their cousins nearby. This niece is the same age as my eldest and they will graduate high school together this June at the same high school. They grew up playing together, sharing friends, and attending school together. People often thought she was mine because we share the same red hair. It’s so bittersweet to be reaching the age when our kids are graduating and heading off into the world and I know an empty nest is just around the corner, but I will always be grateful for our little village and the way our children grew up together. ❤️❤️❤️

In all of the crazy busy of Denver we had some special guest join us the past few days. 15 years ago I made the jump to selling my images digitally. This was a HUGE leap of faith on my end since at the time in person sales and print sales were the industry standard. But SmuMug was my day one partner and I never looked back. I’m not shy about saying that our business does NOT function without them. Over the past few days this team of brilliant software nerds and my dear friend and the co founder of SmuMug Ben watched how we use the platform in real time. The efficiencies and tools coming down the line will allow for a more seamless customer experience and also allow us more time to spend with customers and less time in front of a computer screen! Thank you BIG TIME to Ben, Laura, Cosmo, and Erik! I hope you guys truly enjoyed your time at the National Western. We definitely loved having you.

It has been 1 year since filming the Mobilizing for Monuments Road Trip Film. Our storytelling and advocacy efforts helped expand Berryessa Snow Mountain and San Gabriel Mountains National Monuments, safeguarding over 100,000 acres of natural beauty and honoring the profound connection tribes have to these lands. A year on, SmugMug Films, Flickr, Rivian and The Conservation Alliance are still working to achieve permanent protections for the proposed Chuckwalla National Monument and exploring opportunities for permanent protections across the Dolores landscape. “Life was meant for good friends and great adventures.” What a week in California with such amazing friends. My relationship with SmugMug spans 17 years and so many seasons of my life and my journey as a photographer. Ben and Alastair…thank you for always encouraging me to push the envelope and having the tools to support our vision. Can’t wait to see what new adventures are just around the corner!
