Life is a beautiful thing, and as the time goes by me, I’m reminded of how fortunate we are to experience it. With every win, every loss, every birthday party, every funeral, the clock keeps ticking. It’s a horrifying thing to think about, but it’s a painstakingly lovely thing to experience. We get to laugh. We get to cry. We get to get cut off in traffic. We get to smell freshly baked cookies.

I think that I’m driven by this looming sense of doom. A fear that I won’t have enough time on this world to accomplish everything I want to accomplish. I believe because of that, I allow myself to be so consumed by my goals and my work. And it’s a terrible thing when time is catching up to you and you feel you’re not getting any closer to where you want to be. That being said, over the last two years (specifically this last one) in what I like to call my “involuntary hiatus,” I’ve learned more than I ever could’ve hoped for about life and art and business and humanity. More than I knew there was to learn. I realize that these goals don’t grow further simply because my strides towards them are shorter. The absence of doing what I love has allowed me to spend every waking moment working on being better at it. I had the luxury of taking another big step towards my future on this film I did in October. A reminder from whoever or whatever is out there that our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

I’m not here to preach to you the discoveries that you may have made, or will inevitably make, or spread the gospel that everything happens for a reason; but I’d like to remind you to revel in the fact that you’re alive right now. Don’t waste these precious moments. Go spend with your loved ones. Eat food you like. Watch a movie you love. Look back on your year and realize how fortunate you were to experience it. Look ahead to the next one and salivate over all the things you’re gonna accomplish during it. Be visceral in your existence. Don’t let your living go unnoticed, damn it! I hope we all take one big step in whatever direction we may want to be next year, because we’re only given so many of them.

Happy new years, friends. Here’s to 2026.
