As far as days go, this one has been so perfect. Starting off with some goat yoga @goat.shed with @embraceyoga_with_em

Total chaos and very little yoga, but that was just perfect. So nice to get up close and personal with these fury babies.

I recommend this very highly.

Ben took the photo above atop his Astoria rooftop while enjoying a gorgeous sunset with his wife Kera this weekend.

He added the caption, “Cocktail 🍸”

Photos submitted by local residents @benaldo9 and @febjan2519 of the blaze that consumed the First Reformed Church of Astoria and the aftermath.

I need not tell you all how devastated I am that this happened. The devastating fire that occurred last night had also injured at least 6 FDNY firefighters who I hope make a speedy recovery.

The First Reformed Church of Astoria was such an important link to Astoria’s history. Originally founded in 1835, the church was an important house of worship throughout the 19th century for the leading families of Astoria Village. It is even said that the remains of Astoria’s founder, Stephen Ailing Halsey, as well as the remains of Grant Thorburn, Astoria’s first postmaster, are held in vaults below the church. The current church building dates to 1888 after the original church also burned in a fire. I shudder to think what will become of the site and how little will be done to salvage such an important historical link to this neighborhood but I hope we as a community can come together to try.

On the 16th of October I had my first radiotherapy session. I assumed this was going to be the easy part of my treatment. But it was harder than I thought. The treatment itself self was fine. Getting over to the hospital every day to be zapped then trying to continue the rest of my day, as normal, was more challenging than I thought. For the best part of the radiotherapy days I felt tired. My boob feels slightly sun burnt and tender to touch. Nothing heaps of moisturiser won’t help. More than anything, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster. I’m sure the tamoxifen is part of this mixture of moods.

Today is a big one. It’s all over!!!! No more time to waste, life is for living. Onwards and upwards. Back to work, back to normal. So why doesn’t it feel like that? Truth is, it’s a new reality now. Cancer will always be part of my life and I will always have the fear of it returning. I am cancer free, I just need to get used to the idea 😍😂

I can’t thank my friends and family enough for all their support. I love you all.
