At some point, I became afraid of making mistakes. I felt less free and so not me. Now I’m letting myself be alive again - change my mind, want different things, and follow what feels right without knowing how it will end.

This island teaches you to let go. Old versions of yourself. People. Situations. Expectations of how things “should” be. Here, you understand that nothing belongs to you forever. Not even yourself.

As well as people that come into your life, become dear to you, and then somehow the island takes you in different directions.

When I watch the sun set, I see everyone this island once brought into my life and later took away. Some leave for good, some come back, some stay close from afar, and some return when you’ve stopped waiting.

I’ve learned letting go with a light heart. Every day I watch the sun disappear beyond the horizon. But tomorrow is gonna be a new day and the sun will rise again.

Dear Sydney,

it’s time to say goodbye,
and it feels strange,
because you were never just a place.

You were home when everything was new.
Both challenge and shelter.
Quiet, powerful growth.

You took away my certainties
to teach me how to build new ones.
You made me feel small before the ocean
and bigger within myself.
Between sunrises, sunsets,
and days that seemed endless,
you taught me how to live in the present.

Here I found people
who became family.
Connections born effortlessly,
meant to travel with me wherever I go.
With them, I learned
that home can exist
on the other side of the world.

Now I leave you,
and it’s not easy.

Thank you, Sydney.
For the feelings.
For the people.
For the lessons.

This isn’t goodbye.
Because places that truly change you
never really leave you. ❤️
