I lost a friend recently. The legendary poster artist Bob Masse passed away Monday September 21st.
I met Bob in 1983, asking him to do a cover for a record I was putting together, The History of Vancouver Rock & Roll Vol. 3. He moved to California right after, and I didn’t see him for years.
One day out of the blue, he phoned me wanting to sell some old posters his parents had found in their basement. I went to his place and it was freezing cold in there. I said, “Bob, turn the heat up.” He said, “Oh, I use the fireplace.” I watched him grab a handful of his own posters off the table, crumple them up, and stick them in to start the fire! I said, “Bob, what are you doing? I’ll buy them off you for a dollar each. You can buy a newspaper. You’ll get way more paper for it that way.” So I bought them all.
For a long time, he had stopped doing posters. He said everybody wanted something more aggressive and on-the-edge, and that wasn’t him. I kept telling him he should do posters again. One day it was announced that Donovan was coming to town, and I thought, that’s the one. I told Bob I’d cover the printing costs if he’d do the art. He didn’t have much time, so he recycled a piece he’d done for a sandwich shop in Gastown; a woman holding a little tray with a sandwich on it. I said, “Bob, you can’t have her holding a sandwich!” So he changed it to a crystal ball instead. Donovan loved it and signed them every night on the tour. That’s what got Bob back into it for good.

Magnets! Well, I’ve gotta say, I’ve been dreaming of this as a merch item since 2016. I remember being in Moscow and picking up a magnet just like this of St. Basil’s Cathedral, and I fell in love with the look and feel immediately. After years of staring at it on my fridge and only loosely poking around for a manufacturer, Tim found a spot to get these made, and here we are!
Each one is individually painted, so they’re all a little unique.

Vancouver’s original Motorcychos, @viciouscyclesmc, recently marked the one-year anniversary of their latest LP, Get Wrecked! To celebrate, the band has just released a new music video for "Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em," one of the many highlights on that album!

This song finds VCMC head honcho Billy Bones in full crooner mode, and the addition of an excellent fuzz-guitar solo midway through makes this tune a full-on garage punk ballad, perfect for a nighttime ride to the beach in the late summer!

The video - produced by the band's pal Ty McLeod and filmed at @palmstreetstudiosyvr
in the band's home stomping ground of Vancouver, BC - is the third from Get Wrecked, following previous clips for "Hold On Tight" & "Daddy Was a Gambler."

This weekend, we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Get Wrecked, the latest LP from Vancouver’s original Motorcychos, @viciouscyclesmc!

Featuring insanely catchy singles like "Hold On Tight" and "Daddy Was a Gambler," Get Wrecked is wall to wall full-throttle, gas-guzzlin’ garage punk!

"We play garage/punk rock and roll songs about motorcycles," says head honcho Billy Bones. "We like to have a good time." As simple as it sounds, digging deeper reveals a deeply heartfelt record about life and living it to the fullest.

The band - along with Jesse Gander (Territories, Comeback Kid) & Mariessa McLeod at Rain City Recorders - kept their eyes on the prize: sing-along choruses, handclaps, and short songs that get the job done and don't overstay their welcome. "I didn't want us to write a record that you could dance to." quips Billy. "I wanted us to write a record that you couldn't not dance to."

Great song because: Heavy Trip tap into a hazy, riff-first groove on “Treespinner,” letting the song breathe with a loose, confident swagger. The guitars roll thick and warm, the rhythm section keeps things comfortably locked in the pocket, and the whole track carries that unmistakable stoner-rock drift that feels tailor-made for long, late-night spins. It’s unhurried but never dull — just a smooth, heavy ride that knows exactly how much weight to throw around without overplaying its hand.
