Movement is a powerful tool for our mental health. Did you know that in the NICE guidelines for the NHS, one of the first line treatments for low and moderate severity depression is group exercise? Why because of the solid evidence base. In health we need access to this provision, in way that is designed to support this population. That is where @sportinmind come in. One of their many activities is @runtalkrun and since 2019 they have powered our NHS fitness club in Leamington. Free for patients. But not free to put on. Although I volunteer my time to deliver it, it takes a whole team at Sport in Mind to ensure the magic happens (boring but important stuff!). I am completing their 100K in 10 days challenge to raise money to support this cause. I would truly appreciate it if you could donate or share this post. Big days in the mountains deserve some pretty good recovery. ⛰️🔥 And last weekend that meant a hot wood-fired sauna and a VERY cold plunge at @ultraxuk in the Peak District. We spent the weekend supporting runners after some seriously big miles on the trails and loved watching our little orange sauna become a hub for tired legs & place to share race stories.🧡 And I couldn’t have asked for a better team to do it with Joe and our lovely friend Eve, who absolutely smashed it all weekend. We even snuck away for the shakeout run with @runtalkrun , made some brilliant new connections and caught up with friends we met at Love Trails a couple of years ago — a chance meeting that ultimately brought The Roaming Sauna to Ultra X. 🥹 Then after watching everyone run all weekend, the FOMO got me… So on Sunday I entered the 12km Dash at the VERY last minute and somehow came back 4th lady. 😂⛰️ Safe to say this weekend ticked a lot of boxes: Mountains, Trail running, Community, Recovery & Good people. Huge thank you to Ultra X for having us and everyone who came to sauna, plunge or simply stop for a chat. Ahh @lovetrailsfestival that was SUPERB ☀️🏄‍♀️ 3x @runtalkrun 100x squeezes with my much missed @meghoneysett18 6x talks w phenomenal speakers - @joshlynott @bethantaylorswaine @runningsucks101 being my faves 1x surfing debut (LOVED IT) 2x fave artists danced to, thx @joshuaidehen 🕺 1x run to the sea w/ @bengreyultra with a spicy detour (Undefined #) hrs being an ultimate silly goose w/ @kearacam_x the best driver/bed sharer🪿 Coming away from this feeling just reaaally fortunate that this is what running has given me. A @runtalkrun family (so good to meet leaders/attendees from around the country), the BEST pals, the most inspiring acquaintances, and a hobby that puts me in beautiful places. Running is cool, there’s a reason there’s a “boom”, I won’t ever forget it. The last two nights reminded me why I run. Myself and the @Camino_Ultra team had the privilege of leading two Dark Skies Good People social runs at Love Trails. On paper, asking people to leave the music, the lights and the comfort of a festival to run 12–15km through the darkness doesn’t make much sense. But we’re not always searching for comfort. Sometimes we’re searching for quiet. Sometimes we’re searching for challenge. Sometimes we’re just searching for each other. Across both nights I spoke to people who have run hundreds of ultra miles, and people who were about to run further than they ever had before. Out there, those labels disappeared. We were simply people moving through the dark together. The moment I’ll carry with me is looking over my shoulder and seeing a long ribbon of head torches drifting across the hills. Tiny lights. Individual stories. All moving in the same direction. Trust is a beautiful thing. Thank you to everyone who chose to step away from the noise and into the night with us. And a heartfelt thank you to @LoveTrails for believing in @Camino_Ultra and trusting us with something so special. The miles will fade. The conversations won’t. Endure 24 and a celebration of friendship and the fabulous people that brought the magic 🤩 I was so delighted to see @ginge_runs was here when I saw her post here for the 3 seconds I had internet access. Never expected to actually bump into her with 4000 runners! Thanks to her lovely husband and crew @cjplastering for giving me a yell approaching the finish line of my 3rd lap to let me know she was just behind me 😍🙌 Bumping into @patsy_smiles who designed the skort I happened to have on, in the matching one, because it was designed inspired by all the foxgloves here, was proper mint. And check out her face, doesn't she live up to her name? 😍😁 And getting to meet @maximmichelle in the real after being insta pals definitely didn't disappoint. Love these pics of us both approaching heartbreak hill with more excitement than it deserved! 🙌🫶 @bengreyultra it was fab to bump into you and know you were going to be fronting up an epic cheer squad to make me smile was brill. Repost as insta had a issue with the original song choice 😅 As everyone starts to post the Strava year in review some thoughts ….. I’ve gone a full year without Strava I’ve only uploaded a few things so I could share a route. What I’ve learnt and felt is way beyond that im no longer ruled by the numbers to the endless compressions to other people and myself . What Strava doesn’t tell you in the recap is how much fun you had who you ran with who brought you joy Who you shared your troubles with. What sunset/sunrise gave you hope What moments of peace/love/joy this simple sport gave you Here is to all of that a whole load more running next year.
