The hardest part of a project ending is saying goodbye to the people you’ve been creating with, spending countless hours with, and working so hard with to put the proudest version of the story you’re telling out there!

I’m grateful for such a wonderful experience with this incredible group of humans on stage and off!

It’s not goodbye, it’s until next time! ♥️

end of summer with lots of fam, friends, food and drink 💕

This was a good one. Even though I didn’t make it to the beach (traveling with baby is A LOT), I’m really glad I got to see my loves and do some fun things.

Trying to show up when I can, no matter how I feel because the people I’ve surrounded myself with could care less if I’ve got bags under my eyes with greasy hair as long as we can yada yada and laugh. 💕

Sometimes the best theatre experiences are the ones you don’t plan.

Tonight I found myself at Theatre Row, in a tiny theatre in the middle of Manhattan, watching Safe House —a new play by L.B. Browne, directed by Benjamin Viertel.

I knew almost nothing about it. An hour and a half later, after the applause ended and the actors had left the stage, I stayed in my seat for a while. I simply didn’t want to speak.

The play starts with a man building a bunker to protect his family from the civil war he believes may follow the coming election.

But the bunker is only the premise. What the play opens up beneath it is much deeper.

It was the family: parents and children, two sisters, a husband and wife. People who love each other, hurt each other, protect each other and sometimes confuse protection with control.

In different ways, something about it reminded me of McDonagh and Chekhov, —that territory where humor, cruelty, tenderness and pain can exist almost in the same moment.

And the performances are fantastic. Karen Ziemba, Marc Kudisch, Anna Roman, Grace Church, Justin Lee Miller, Glenn Seven Allen and Julianna Layne create an incredibly precise and truthful ensemble. Sometimes a pause, a look, the smallest change in someone’s face is enough to bring tears to your eyes.

It made me laugh, worry, cry and think. I felt deeply connected to what was happening, and I believed the people on that stage.

And perhaps what surprised me almost as much as the play itself was finding myself, together with a room full of strangers, in this incredibly intimate theatrical space right in the middle of New York.

You sit just a few feet away from the actors. And suddenly you are inside someone else’s family and, at the same time, somehow inside your own.

I definitely want to see more work by this playwright, this director, and these fantastic actors. And I want to come back to @theatrerow , hoping another evening there can shake me and surprise me this much again. If you’re in New York, I really recommend finding a way to see Safe House.

@safehouseplay produced by @split.decisionco was one of those nights that reminded me why I love theatre.

Come see why critics and audiences alike are calling SAFE HOUSE “beautifully written,” “incendiary,” “imaginative,” and “captivating.”

The play “moves through difficult and deeply contemporary territory” and you’ve got 7 MORE chances to see it!
