Models can add a lot to architecture and interior photography—bringing life, scale, movement, and function to a space. Here are 6 examples—each with a note on who the “models” really are. Enjoy!

1. ALH brought in several employees to sit in as models for the AlohaCare office shoot.

2. At the Lilia Waikiki apartments, this man came and sat where we were about to shoot, but we couldn’t have cast a more idea model. He fit the part perfectly! The only thing we altered in post was the color of his water bottle so it wasn’t distracting.

3. My client Ed English walked in front of the Maui County Federal Credit Union to help bring scale and life to this sunrise image of the bank.

4. The Waikele Premium Outlets is a very busy shopping center, so there were no shortage of models walking around for this shot. However, if you look closely you’ll see me sitting on the bench closest to the camera, which helped make the composition feel a bit more balanced.

5. This VA home wasn’t open when we photographed it, and my client had to leave the site for a while during the day, so my assistant and I stood in to help the shot.

6. Let’s not forget about my favorite model...my dog, Hercules! This is my living room, and I’ve trained him to put his head all the way down and stay still for photos.
