There are just two days remaining until the end of the 25th @biennalesydney REMEMORY curated by wonderful @hooralq As I reflect on this experience, one of the highlights was connecting with the fellow artists involved in this edition of @biennalesydney as well as the audiences who engaged with my artwork at @ccwm_sydney I enjoyed witnessing how the staff members and security guards at @ccwm_sydney embraced this large heart and engaged with the visitors during the talks conducted by university students and the workshops. My heartfelt thanks to @ccwm_sydney @biennalesydney and everyone who came by and shared their thoughts about this monumental heart.

Figured out the Sydney public transportation system by myself (pretty easy) and attended the 13th General Assembly this morning, a public conference for REMEMORY: Living Solidarities, Embodied Futures.

Watched three panel discussions with three themes: globalities, publics, and solidarities. Each panel featured a lead who spoke directly to these kaupapa, followed by respondents.

Great to listen to Benjamin work respond to globalities through the lens of Moana positionality, folding in his investigative practice within pāpaaki and got to see the installation, an enduring body of work.

I also really enjoyed hearing from Reem Fadda and her curatorial articulation of the public art works in the Abu Dhabi Biennale. Mauri ora! 🌊

Our community recently visited the 25th Biennale of Sydney across the Chau Chak Wing Museum and White Bay Power Station, spending time with works exploring rememory, colonisation and the ongoing impacts still felt globally today.

So many of the pieces were deeply moving, exhibition to engagement and interactivity to evoke conversation and exploration. To all of the artists and organisers we thank you.

A special mention to Marian Abboud’s powerful work, which resonated deeply with many in our group, alongside artist Ema Shin whose work Hearts of Absent Women (Tree of Family) formed part of the Biennale’s Rememory exhibition. Together, the works created space for dialogue, storytelling, memory and reflection across generations and communities.

The installation Vietnamese Immigrating Garden by Tuan Mami also became a beautiful point of connection for our group, with Seed of Hope artists and community members engaging in the interactive seed-rolling activities throughout the visit.

It was also incredibly meaningful to experience DAAR’s haṣīra on display at Chau Chak Wing Museum, with many women drawing connections to our own series of events presented in partnership with DAAR throughout the Biennale program. We are grateful to have been engaged in and hosted conversations and gatherings connected to this year’s Biennale.

Huge thanks to our Creative Producers and Community Connectors for organising and supporting the day, and for continuing to create opportunities for community to experience arts and culture together. ✨

The Biennale of Sydney opens on Saturday, and this week I attended a media preview and took the opportunity to snap some portraits of artists with their work.

It’s a massive exhibition across 5 venues including @whitebaypowerstation @artgalleryofnsw @ccwm_sydney @penrithregionalgallery @campbelltownartscentre and is curated by Artistic Director @hooralq.

The media preview is like a crash course in photography, where you hastily introduce yourself to the artist and ask for a quick photo by their work. Sometimes the light is just right, sometimes I need to enhance it with a little speedlite. But I hope I do the artists justice by recording a memento of them proudly with their work.

A @biennalesydney sampler from last week at

@artgalleryofnsw
@chauchakwing_foundation
@whitebaypowerstation
@campbelltownartscentre

“A means of revisiting, reconstructing, and reclaiming histories that have been erased or repressed, Rememory signifies the intersection of memory and history, where recollection becomes an act of reassembling fragments of the past—whether personal, familial, or collective. The 25th edition of the Biennale connects the delicate space between remembering and forgetting. By engaging with Rememory, artists will highlight marginalised narratives, share untold stories, and inspire audiences to rethink how memory shapes identity, belonging, and the creation and celebration of new communities and connections.”

Visiting ReMemory with a group of enthusiastic art lovers from Aotearoa.
The group found the theme really resonated with them and understood some of the works are challenging. All the more reason to travel with the amazing @sueg123

Some glimpses of the Sydney Biennale at Chau Chak Wing Museum, Sydney University, beginning with Ema Shin’s big beautiful heart. The smaller works that accompany it are incredibly intricate but I am too shit at photography to get good images of them!

And a great video work by Vietnamese artist Tuan Andrew Nguyen, which I wish I’d had time to fully sit through. If I have one quibble about this Biennale, it’s that many of the video works are at least half an hour long, often an hour. It’s hard to fully take things in when you’re trying to jam everything, including a drive to Campbelltown and Penrith, into a quick visit. But you know… on a global level this isn’t exactly a major problem 😅

Shown here -Ema Shin, me ol’ work buddy Warraba Weatherall, Richard Bell, Dorothy Cross, Lamia Joreige, Hoda Afshar, Vernon Ah Kee & Behrouz Boochani, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Khalil Rabah, Benjamin Work & Derek Ogbourne.
