I’m honored to share that I’ve been invited to join the Recording Academy’s 2026 New Member Class. 🤟

Looking forward to meeting folks from the ATL chapter and being a part of a community that works to support creators, champion artists, and help shape the future of global music.

Big thanks to my friends @benjholst and @_kevinleahy_ for the nod.

A huge thank you to David Ryan Harris, Ben Holst, and our host Parker Smith for an unforgettable evening at ATL Songs. Some seriously incredible performances with some stories behind the songs, it was a night that reminded us why Atlanta’s music community is so special.

Even more meaningful, every ATL Songs event helps support the mission of Roots of Rhythm Foundation—expanding access to music education and putting instruments into the hands of those who need them most.

Thank you to everyone who came out, listened, and helped make a difference. We can’t wait to do it again!

Remember your first concert? Well as a 12-year old Memphis boy, I’ll never forget my first concert witnessing James Brown perform at the Ellis Auditorium in the summer of 1965. As unforgettable as it was watching women throwing their underwear at him, the precision-funk of Brown’s amazing band and his electrifying performance was life-changing for me. This led me to a hankering to do an edition of my WYXR-FM show Air-Conditioned that celebrated some great live performances of some of my favorite soul and R&B acts.

It didn’t take long before I rounded up some recordings guaranteed to get you movin’ and uh shakin’. James Brown, Muddy Waters, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Marvin Gaye, Staple Singers, and Curtis Mayfield get things going and Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Isaac Hayes, plus Les McCann and Eddie Harris bring on home. All this for your listening enjoyment and you don’t even have to cough up fees for TicketMaster or a scalper.

Just click on the link in the bio and it’ll take you to the Air-Conditioned webpage where the latest episode and a handful of recent episodes can be streamed anytime. Remember, this episode is available to hear at 9AM CST, Friday, June 12th. You don’t have to only check it out at the time it airs, if your schedule doesn’t permit. It’ll be available to hear for the following month. If you use this link before this show’s airing, you will get last week’s show, which was actually pretty good, too. As always, thanks for listening and the good feedback.
