- Super talented @saramontoyasepulveda
- Rising star @izzy_gordon1

- Our amazing porters and trackers that made our day to day possible.
- So many colleagues involved at @silverback_films
- Everyone at @savinggorillas
- and many more!

We did some monster treks sometimes gaining well over 1000 meters in altitude to find the gorillas on a daily basis. On some of the longer summer days we would trek for 5 hours up only to not find the Pablo group in the mist and various ravines.

To camp in the park was a special experience, as was being the first person entrusted to drone with mountain gorillas, both mostly down to the incredible work of @amyjthompson.

Between the three main gorilla camera people we swapped our systems around and all did a mix of long lens and gimbal. I would often be using my float gimbal system with a few different set ups to ensure I could react to the gorillas and move with them while also capturing a sequence efficient. I’ve worked with @ewan_dryburgh and @benjaminsadd on multiple projects now and it is always a pleasure.

Mountain gorillas are truly special, as is this wonderful group of humans.

Bugs!

#arealbugslife seems like forever ago but tonight the Love In The Forest Ep is up for Best Cinematography at the @wildscreenorg Awards. It’s a huge honour to be nominated against two magnificent films.

You may think spending loads of time with some amazing ‘bugs’, in particular the lunar moth, in a giant studio would be easy and a joy to film… These gorgeous animals could sometimes create a seemingly endless amount of problems to solve. But in truth that is the part I love to work through and thankfully there were people much smarter than me on the case to help. A particular shout out to @drtimcockerill who helped us film mating slugs on our first night of trying to film that behaviour, a task we were told could take over a week, allowing us to get more creative for the rest of that shoot.

Working on Bugs was a proper challenge. Aiming to push cinematic boundaries and make bugs accessible. So many amazing cinematographers, camera assistants, animal handlers, and of course the editorial, edit, post and production teams made it possible. Thank you @plimsollproductions for including me in your team. A particular thanks to @stolenolives for getting me involved in the first place, to @eeeeuan for his openness and collaboration for weird and wonderful ideas, to @katherinehannafordfilm for her immense talent across camera and editorial and to Tom Oldridge for his tireless patience and work ethic. There are so many other incredible people to thank and acknowledge, you know who you are.

I felt like Farm Studios became my second home for a while, Nick you’re a legend! We made some magic in your studios, I loved the collaboration, everyone learning from each other.

Shot primarily on @reddigitalcinema Gemini with @sonycine FX6 and Phantom Veo cameras. For my filming we often used my trusty #ContaxZeiss primes alongside @laowa.cine probes and @infinityphotoopticalcompany Infiniprobe. Mounted on all sorts of rigs, often with @emotimo control.

I hope one day I get to work on another project that is filled with so much creativity and the ultimate goal to making the viewers fall in love and understand a part of nature they might have otherwise not cared for.

I spent the weekend reading through my diary and notes from the summer, so many things to think about that I’d almost forgotten in the whirl of straight outta school life... I’ve written letters to some of the people I met and worked with, saying hi is the least I can do. Everyone had a story to share, from tales of cutting foreign fishing lines to the myths of how the Marquesas Islands got their name, how to do a DIY tattoo and dance the Manu Haka... the power of oral storytelling there is something else - everyone spoke with such humour and drama and aplomb... I feel like I learnt more there than I did during my entire degree 😂 I miss so much about it, even speaking French the whole time (and no it did not improve...) ❤️❤️❤️thanks @annikaschlemm and @benji_cherry for the photos #sappypost
