it’s officially dragon con week!! are we ready???

with dragon con celebrating its 40th anniversary, it got me going on a lil trip down memory lane of my own dragon con experiences…

I started attending DCon in 2018, shortly after meeting my now-husband, though I’d been going to conventions long before that. DCon was nothing like I’d ever been to, and nothing compares to the feeling of walking the skybridges and trading badge ribbons with fellow dragon con-goers!

so here’s a quick journey though my years of attending dragon con~ from my first bunny hutch cosplay in 2019, con-line in 2020 (I made my own badge that year!), my first big build in 2023, and the second year of my cosplay group being on the official schedule in 2025. 🥹💕 I cannot wait to see everyone later this week!

What’s your favorite dragon con moment?

Like many of you beautiful people on my feed, I love going to DragonCon. It’s less than a week away, & today is my last off day from work before the convention.

A lot of newer guests & attendees struggle with some of the realities of navigating the downtown sector of a major city during a holiday weekend to spend almost a week hanging out with 70-80,000 of their closest friends. Even more daunting a task for this sort of adventure is packing.

I’m here to help out with that. I’ve been going to DragonCon since 2005, & I’ve been gathering tips from veteran attendees, guests & performers for 2 decades. I’ve filmed this reel to pay it forward to the intrepid newer Con-goers who permeate our ranks each year. This video includes a comprehensive list of everything you will need to have a fun, safe weekend with all of your favorite strangely-dressed nerds.

I wore sleeves at the gym today. Weird. It may not be much to some, but today I was able to put 80 pound dumbbells for 3 sets of 10 clean reps on bench press & incline bench press! Not terrible at a BW of 180! Makes me laugh to think that in 10th grade, I tore my left pecans trying to bench 95 pounds on my buddy’s dad’s Bowflex. I’ve come a long way. #gym #gains #freeweights #weightlifting #icongym @icon_gyms

A lot of people in my gym & many others have cool patches on their bags that say things like “IFBB Pro” or “Arnold Classic”. I have these, lol. I’ve never competed in anything & never intend to. I’m here for the fun, to feel better, & feel better about myself.

Aside from it being back/biceps day, yesterday also held 2 significant meanings to me.

1- It was the 21st anniversary of my hiring date with Publix Supermarkets! My career there is now old enough to drink, which somehow I’ve still never done.

2- I took my lifting to a different level when chatting a fellow old card gaming pro (a much better one than myself, he succeeded more on skill than just trade) who was starting to work on life & fitness coaching & offered me his digital book if I simply used it as much as I could & documented some progress pics. A decade & 30-40 pounds of muscle later, I’m happy to report that it’s all working. So is his career. He’s spent his adult life studying strength, movement, fitness, philosophy, & lifestyle coaching. The exciting part is that he’s also succeeded in another way as of yesterday! Congratulations to @paullevitin, who has eloped to the Amalfi Coast in Italy to marry the lovely @liv.levitin! Super excited for them & their new life!
