From the new issue: The sculptor Charles Simonds chose pavements over plinths and window ledges over white cubes. After all, the Little People needed dwellings—hundreds of them that Simonds created from the early 1970s on. In a profile by Blau’s own Benjamin Barlow, the octogenarian world-builder looks back on a life’s work. “People really thought I was nuts,” he says. But was he? Order a copy of No. 14 to find out. Image 1: Charles Simonds, “Picaresque Landscape” (detail), Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1976; Image 3: Charles Simonds constructing a Dwelling, Dayton, Ohio, 1978
