The evolution of our home… with a big growing family we needed some more space, we added a master wing extension which involved a new hallway, master bedroom, ensuite and the WIR of my dreams. We converted our old bedroom into a tv room. It honestly feels like it was always there and part of the original house. Thank you to @vastibuildco for doing an epic job and @naileditkitchens for the joinery install, pics by @andymacpherson.studio

The Laydown: Byron Bay Project | Part 7

This is where the layout really starts to make sense.

The kitchen and dining sit at the centre — the true hero of the home — with clear sightlines through to the pool, living zones, and beyond. Every space connects, but nothing feels crowded.

From there, it flows effortlessly. Living area, butler’s pantry, and out to a second dining zone framed by the landscape.

And then… a short walk, and you’re on the beach.

That’s the brief, done properly — open, connected, and built around how people actually live.

The Laydown: Byron Bay Project | Part 6

You can source great stone — but the outcome is always in the hands of the installer.

Crazy paving, especially, lives or dies by how it’s laid. The curves, the flow, the way each piece connects — that’s not in the crate. That’s on site.

The goal here was clear: keep the stone as the feature. Avoid harsh lines, avoid anything that pulls your eye to the grout. Just natural movement, controlled and intentional.

Every edge softened. Every piece shaped. Every surface laid flat and comfortable underfoot.

It’s subtle work — but it’s what separates a good job from a great one.

Byron Bay Project - Completed in LUMIRA Limestone.

Crazy paving relies on more than material, it’s defined by how it’s laid. Each curve, each connection resolved on site to create a natural, uninterrupted flow.

The focus here was simple: let the stone be the feature. Soft edges, considered placement, and a surface that feels seamless underfoot.

Subtle in execution, but it’s what brings the project together.

The Laydown: Byron Bay Project | Part 5

We’re at the point where it all starts to come together.

Final touches still to land — lighting, styling, furniture — but the heavy lifting is done. And this is where you can really see the work.

Section by section, bay by bay — that’s how a job like this gets finished. Break it down, stay focused, and trust the process. Because when you step back and look at it as a whole, it’s something else.

The crazy paving brings that organic, natural movement through the space, balanced against clean lines and a more modern architectural feel. It’s that contrast that makes it work.

Tough build. Big effort. Worth it.

The Laydown: Byron Bay Project | Part 4

One of the standout moves in this build is the transition.

Crazy paving flows straight through the hallway and into the wet areas — no step, no break, no interruption. Just a completely flush transition that holds the entire space together.

Technically, it’s the same process — but the complexity lifts in the wet zones. Falls become critical, drainage needs to be exact, and every piece has to work toward that outcome without compromising the overall layout.

That’s the balance.
Performance on one side, continuity on the other.

And when you get both right, it changes everything.

Habitat House • Our Lennox Head project, completed in 2022. A single-storey, split-level home where Japanese simplicity meets brutalist architectural influences. Designed to flow seamlessly from inside to out, with spaces that open and connect with intention.

The native gardens flourished in our coastal climate, softening and balancing the raw, cool material palette of the house.
