Behind every finished piece is a decision to keep going.
I have learned that rest is not weakness it’s preparation.
Pause when you need to, reflect, reset, and return.
The journey belongs to those who never stop showing up.

BE OPEN Art has named figurative oil painter Megan Weeda @megan.weeda its Artist of the Month for June 2026. Based in Dayton, USA, Weeda creates expressive paintings that examine memory, perception, and identity through the lens of aphantasia, the inability to form mental images. Blending vivid color with visual distortion, she reconstructs personal recollections into emotionally charged compositions that challenge conventional ideas of remembering. As the June winner, Weeda advances to the BE OPEN Art Artist of the Year 2026 competition.

According to Maya Angelou, nothing can dim the light that shines from within. Black women embody this truth through their resilience, grace, and unwavering strength. Their beauty is not only seen but felt in their courage, their heritage, and their ability to rise above every challenge.

Therefore In Her Glory celebrates the inner light, dignity, and power that Black women carry within them.

Title:- SON OF THE SOIL

Charcoal and acrylic on canvas

(Y) 2026

Size:- 38*48 inches

“Son of the Soil” speaks about the importance of raising children with the knowledge of their roots, culture, and traditions. A child who is disconnected from his heritage may grow with education but without identity. True training is not complete without teaching the values, customs, and history of one’s people, because culture is the foundation upon which character is built.

The painting reminds us that parents and elders have the responsibility to preserve tradition by passing it down to the younger generation. In a rapidly changing world, many young people are losing touch with their origins, forgetting that culture is what gives a people their uniqueness and pride. A child grounded in tradition grows with confidence, dignity, and a strong sense of belonging.

As Chinua Achebe once said, “A man who does not know where the rain began to beat him cannot say where he dried his body.” This reminds us that understanding our history and roots is necessary to understand ourselves.

Also, Marcus Garvey stated, “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” Just as a tree cannot stand without roots, a generation disconnected from its culture struggles to maintain identity and direction.

ART in NATURE
Pic of the week

Jim Denevan
@jimdenevan
“Self Similar”

Originating as a circle drawn in the sands of Abu Dhabi, artist Jim Denevan used a simple stick before Self Similar” evolved into one of the largest land art installations ever created. Sculpted as a central part of a city-wide light art exhibition, Manar Abu Dhabi, it spans nearly one square kilometer and reaches a towering height of twenty-seven meters.
Visitors are invited to engage with the installation. E.g. they are invited to climb two observation mounds to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding natural landscape.
