"It was like an action movie, except it was terrifyingly real." That's how Pam Bergman, of @bergmanestate , describes the 2020 Glass Fire, when the blaze crossed Spring Mountain and she, her ranch crew, and firefighting teams spent weeks battling flare-ups as the fire reignited again and again in the forest around her property.

Years of clearing vegetation paid off: the fire slowed at her treated meadows, and crews were able to stop it on the ridgeline above Highway 29 — protecting the homes, vineyards, and wineries below.

Now she's a Founding Valley Steward, backing a valley-wide approach to wildfire resilience. As she puts it: "For those of us committed to being here for generations, participating isn't optional. It's a necessity."
