Enjoyed my birthday with @karencoxhistorian, celebrating her contribution to @ava’s new documentary “14th” at its @thenyff premiere. It gets a limited release November 27, then it streams globally on @Netflix starting December 4th.
•
There were so many fabulous filmmakers and scholars in the crowd, and as Karen’s guest, I feel honored to walk that red carpet with them. And how wonderful to see IRL friends @berlination and @photojuice!
•
I do however have a couple of sticking points: 1.) I’m a little annoyed this won’t be out before the November elections. It’s a great companion to @ava’s documentary feature “13th” and outlines how the five points of the 14th amendment are being disregarded in real time. Would be great to have it be part of the larger conversation ahead of time. 2.) I hate to say it, but I’m more than a little annoyed at the use of AI in the film. It was jarring and took me out of the moment. Knowing what data centers are doing to steal our intellectual property, hurt our people and the environment, seeing it used here gave me the ick. My understanding is they wanted to recreate the effects of stereoscopes, but why not hire human animators to do that? I get wanting to play in a new technology, but until it’s regulated, seeing it used like this makes me feel sorrow.
•
Overall, this film is necessary viewing. We didn’t get into this mess overnight, and we won’t get out overnight, but we will course-correct. Make sure you’re registered to vote and that you make a voting plan for November. Know what’s on your ballot!
•
My original scripts and my solo show are looks at how we get into, and out of, longterm messes. I’ve done a lot of self-reflection and course-correction on my own longterm messes and I’m grateful to be where I am. And where I am now, as much fun as Friday night was, I knew that @jed.resnik would be there for laid-back birthday shenanigans on Saturday, my birthday observed. That’s what’s up.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
People have opinions about whether Bailey should have kids. Unfortunately, a horrifying trip to the gyno forces her to have one, too.

When everyone in her life pressured Bailey to have a baby, she spent a lot of time questioning, researching, and agonizing over what was wrong with her—until she found the answer, inside her guts—at the gyno’s office. This solo comedy explores what it means to sift through the gunk and finally trust your inner voice!

🍋‍🟩 federico marchetti was the first person to take luca guadagnino seriously when he said he wanted to design interiors. nearly a decade later, the two have worked together again on this milan penthouse, where guadagnino was given the kind of freedom most designers can only dream about. the result pulls from brazilian modernism, with dark woods, tropical plants, saturated tile, polished steel, and rattan.. there is a jungle of terraces outside, a picasso in the library, an anish kapoor in the living room, and absolutely no mood board in sight. guadagnino prefers to work from memory instead.

For my fellow thespians in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿— FOUR DAYS LEFT YOU GOT THIS!

Thanks to @berlination for snapping these fresh pics and @rosalineh.marketingandpr — without her none of this would have been possible ✨
