One of the craziest things about life, to me, is that you can make something out of nothing. I still cannot fully grasp that what started a year ago with โ€˜What about Ethno on a boat?!โ€™ (just a bunch of hot air) turned into an actual week with actual faces from over ten different places, bringing songs and instruments I still had to get familiar with - perhaps especially the Dutch ones: because who ever heard of the traditional Dutch hommel, or the foekepot? Who knows the Rozenhoed song, has danced to the Bravade? And donโ€™t I love them now.

Intercultural music exchange can do that: it functions like a mirror. Conce told me this, my fellow-mentor&friend this summer brought me. First, you might not think particularly highly of the traditional music from your own country. But then you hear others play their music, you get curious, dig up something from your own hometown archive. And when you make the others hear it, see the enthusiasm reflected in their eyes, you are shook. Shook by your own heritage.

Itโ€™s an amazing feeling, after traveling to different countries the past years, far from home to learn about different music cultures, to at last be able to invite musicians to your own home, sail with them past past houses and places where little you used to bike, into a harbor where your parents dance a mazurka to the music youโ€™re playing from the deck. Feels like certain elements of my life are finally colliding.

@bernetwilms, @anuka.finders, @skykey.official, @drum_string, @johan_de_tak, @nourwahedi, @dariamischuk, getting to work with you on this project felt like a gift - you were always three steps ahead of the game. Thank you @conceneuling, once more, for being the best co-artistic-mentor. Thank you to @vrijbuiterzeilen en @van.zeeuwse.bodem for open arms to bunch of strangers. But especially to my dear friend @joeydoorten. I have no words for your insane skillset and dedication, without you it maybe would have remained hot air.

We worked hard but the result was so crazy idyllic and moving. Still shook by water&wind, Iโ€™m hoping this to be a first of many!
