Absolute stunners over at @marisellarestaurant, @ritzcarltonbacarasb. The views inside and out, in the glass and on the plate, are hard to surpass. Thank you for having us and thank you to @805living magazine for another beautiful collab in their Food & Wine issue, out now! 🥂

“Perched on a seaside bluff at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara @ritzcarltonbacarasb, Santa Barbara, the new Marisella @marisellarestaurant restaurant takes full advantage of its setting with expansive windows, flowing outdoor patios, and a seafood-centric coastal Italian menu. The fine-dining restaurant from chef-partner Danny Grant @chefdannygrant opened in June, offering a selection of local catch, handmade pastas, seasonal produce, and wood-fired meats. An Italian-leaning menu, a collaboration between Grant and executive chef Samuel Garcia @sam_en_place, highlights ingredients from local sources.”

Now that you have a vicarious buzz from that mega martini (previous post🍸), let’s continue. This last stop on my excellent East Coast adventure was ideal in every way. Passionate about design as I am, I’d been curious about @twahotel since it first started to get press in 2019 after a total restoration and transformation from airline terminal to hotel. Apparently, Eero Saarinen’s soaring, swooping masterpiece had fallen into extensive disrepair. There’s so much fascinating history here, please google architect Richard Southwell and TWA terminal preservation for loads more info. Flying @hawaiianairlines to and from HNL on their direct flight, the idea of jettisoning my rental car and walking - yes walking - with my roller bag from the airport train right into the hotel and settling in for the night before doing the same through the Saarinen tunnel the next morning straight into Terminal 5 to catch my flight home, was literally the only exit plan I entertained. Not being a morning person, I’ve always dreaded the homeward bound crack-of-dawn exodus from Manhattan, so a new strategy was called for. Could any travel experience be more civilized than booking pool time at sunset, watching the planes land and take off, drink in hand (zoom the guy in the pool’s blissed out expression), then meet up with a quartet of Parsons School of Design friends (who made the trek out to JFK) for a delicious dinner at the Jean-Georges outpost Paris Café, then falling into a heavenly bed while gazing out the window at the glowing icon below? In the morning, gliding down the red carpet from the Howard Hughes wing where I’d slept, in search of a (great) café au lait, what better way to be blasted to full attention than Shirley Bassey belting out the Goldfinger theme as I entered into the sun-drenched lobby? I cannot wait to go back. (When I catch my breath after this mini thesis of a post, I’ll put these plus lots more images up on Stories.) #eerosaarinen #twa #twahotel #jfkairport #midcenturymodern #midcenturymoderndesign #sixtiesstyle #sixtiesmusic #sixtiesmod #midcenturymodernarchitecture #whiteandred #curvaceous #sexydesign #pariscafe #howardhughes #richardsouthwell
