My Marathon journey and my “Why”🫶🏻:

Often times we get asked why we choose to run a marathon and put our bodies through all those miles. For some, it’s a lot deeper than that. My why stems from a goal I set back in my early college years when I started running, that I would one day run a marathon. Along the years, my “why” gained many reasons.
To start, I became a momma and somewhere along the way I lost myself completely in motherhood. As beautiful as it is, you can easily lose your identity. You’re learning on the go, juggling a million things at once, being a momma, a wife, managing a household, a career… you forget to fill your cup too. After having my second born, I was deep in the postpartum trenches. Postpartum blues.. I sure wasn’t expecting that. It was one of the hardest years of my life. I was in desperate need to find myself again, and running was that for me. Choosing to put my physical and mental health first was the best thing I could’ve done. I decided to start therapy, and I’m forever grateful because it allowed me to begin to heal mentally from things I didn’t even realize I was carrying.
As for physical health, this time last year, I had a cancer scare. Cancer runs heavy in my family, and the “what if” thoughts always terrified me. By the grace of God, things were found in due time before they became worse, and I had surgery to remove what needed to be gone. All of that just fueled my desire to prioritize my health. For me and for my boys. Running gave me the space I needed to find peace and mental clarity while keeping my heart and body healthy🩵
Lastly, I’m running this marathon for my grandpa. 🫶🏻 If you know me, you know my grandparents are my absolute world. Finding out my grandpa has cancer is something I still can’t comprehend, but I refuse to let the intrusive thoughts win. Keep on fighting mi viejito. This will all just be a bad dream soon. Just know, I’m running this marathon with my heart in my hand.🥺

To the running community… Finding my stride alongside you has been a massive source of motivation. All the support and guidance I’ve received from OnTrk & Berwyn Runners I’m so deeply grateful for every mile we’ve shared.🫶🏻

I wasn’t in first place, but with the cheers of my family and friends, it felt like I was. 🥹❤️🏅

Every shout, every smile, and every voice cheering my name reminded me that this journey was about so much more than a finish time. I may not have crossed the finish line first, but I crossed it surrounded by love, and that’s a victory I’ll carry in my heart forever. 🏃‍♀️❤️

My first marathon. My forever kind of victory. 🥹✨#chicagomarathon #chidistanceseries

What a great way to start the day! I had a great run with @tea.m545 at my last Staycation Mile with them It was so much fun, and I’m feeling proud of myself. 2.80 miles. I had to cut it short today, and that is okay.

Thank you, Team 5:45, for the Gators . I really appreciate it!

Congratulations to the Backyard winner. I did not win this time, and that is okay. Till do the race

I had such a fun time and look forward to going back through the end of November. Until next time!

Happy weekend everyone
