A few days ago, I had the pleasure of supporting Michiganders in lobbying legislators and co-organizing a rally at the MI statehouse to repeal the MI Tampon tax.
.
27 states including Michigan still have a tampon tax. If MI repeals its tampon tax, it would become the 24th state to do so!!!
.
I am especially in awe of my MI friends for their dedication, perseverance and advocacy around repealing the tampon tax for so many years.
.
When my student group and I successfully advocated for the repeal of the Ohio tampon tax several years ago, Michiganders supported us - We wanted to show that same solidarity to Michiganders in fighting to repeal the Michigan tampon tax! I, along with other student activists chose to leave Ohio at 6 AM on the day of the Ohio State homecoming football game to join everyone for the #MIPAD rally!
.
Last month, 27 students and organizations testified in front of MI legislators to repeal tax the tampon tax. Legislators remarked that this was the greatest number of individuals to have EVER testified for the repeal of the tampon tax in state of MI, leading to the passage of this legislation by the Tax Committee. But, we are not done yet. Michiganders, we need YOU to make your voices heard. Meet with your senators, call them, write to them and DEMAND that they vote YES on Senate Bills 153 and 154 to send them to the floor for a vote.
