I’m not going to say I’d turn down a winning lottery ticket, a European river cruise or liposuction and there was a time those were the kinds of things that would make me look up and say “Thank you, Lord”, because those were the kinds of things that would “remind me of how much God loves us”. Man, was I off base with that tunnel vision.⁣ ⁣ I was lying in bed this morning barely awake and playing on my phone like the millennial I’m not when Becca texted that Lily wanted to come over. The next thing I know, I’m in my pajamas sipping coffee, cooking scrambled eggs, chatting about quinoa and playing with glittery press on nails with a 3 year old. Not my average Monday morning. ⁣ ⁣ After that fun little unexpected play date, I sat down to do my morning reading. I opened my Bible and it fell to John 14. The heading read “Jesus Comforts His Disciples”. My eyes hung on the word Comfort. He protects, he guides, he forgives, he instructs, he loves...and he comforts. ⁣ ⁣ It took me more years than can fit in a bread box to figure out that 1)our hearts are comforted in a thousand different ways and they’re not all tangible and 2) God loves us so fully and deeply that he *wants* us to back off the striving to comfort ourselves and soak up the gifts of comfort from him. I would have never thought an early morning pajama party, eating watermelon pieces with toothpicks and not even remembering I hadn’t washed my face would have made my heart so happy, but God did. That’s why he sent this little blonde cutie to be my neighbor. ⁣ ⁣ Maybe take a stroll through John 14 and consider the ways God is comforting you now that you may be overlooking.
