POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

🌱 Kelli @seedthestars has been working with @utopianseedproject this season, which has given me a closer look at their work and the community around it. I got to experience their first Trial to Table event of the season @montgomeryskyfarm

🌈 Utopian’s Trial to Table events bring growers, chefs and the community together around locally grown crops and the trials happening across the region.

🥬 Their lettuce trial was a great example of how multiple growers across the region can trial the same varieties under different growing conditions, then bring them to the table for chefs and the community to taste and weigh in on. That shared feedback helps move the trial and seed saving work forward.

🍴 Beyond the lettuce trial, we got to taste bitter melon, amaranth, roselle, okra, cucumbers and heirloom tomatoes transformed into dishes by the chefs. It’s one thing to see these crops in the field and another to hear the community talk about how the chefs transformed these summer veggies.

💡 The event gave us a lot to think about at @seedthestars, especially how we want to keep growing alongside the communities we grow for.

🐹 Big thanks to Taylor and Fran Montgomery for hosting, and congratulations to Chef Taylor @keeppushingchef on winning the 2026 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southeast. Their farm is also home to @finalrunrescue, including the rescued capybara who inspired the Trial to Table mascot, along with many other rescue animals.

🥂 Shoutout to the chefs, growers and community that made this all possible: @abtechculinary @babygarlicclove @baileycooks @bethkellerhals @blueandyellowmakes @brettsuess @butterpunkavl @caseyruiz @chefttlivinandlovin @fmontgomery19 @jchong_eats @laughingspringsfarm @leeza.chen @oldnorthfarmer @oldnorthfarmwnc @oldnorthshrub @seedthestars @spicewalla @utopianseedproject @walnutfamilybakery

📍 If you're in the Asheville area, there are two more Trial to Table events this season: September 26 at Bellsong Farm, and November 7 at The Mule.

@bethkellerhals inspired me to make strawberry/rhubarb pop tarts, since I had one of hers @butterpunkavl . They turned out great, but not as good as hers. AND I had no idea it was such a process, making the dough, chilling the dough, making a strawberry/rhubarb jam, then chilling that, cutting the dough into squares, giving them an egg wash, assembling them, crimping the edges, then putting them in the freezer for an hour before baking them. Then you make the strawberry rhubarb icing and frost them while still warm out of the oven. I will be purchasing all future strawberry/rhubarb pop tarts from @butterpunkavl 😂😂😂😂

Cute photo evidence from the dreamy Pie Day collaboration that raised $2,102 for @vecinosinc! Thank you to all who showed up!

@thatashleycapps is with us in spirit here since we weren’t able to catch a picture with all 4 of the pie gals (I did think about photo shopping her in) but @keiaishungry @bethkellerhals and @camillecogswell represented the group at the bakery that morning. All of the pies were out of this world and so was the crowd of supporters.

We love you, we love pie, we love community, and we love Vecinos!

We’re tallying our proceeds and will get back asap with our donation total.
