it’s official, the dinner party has been replaced by the round table

somewhere between the third series and the celebrity one, a nation collectively decided that the ideal weekend involves a castle, twelve friends, a cloak, and the slow, delicious destruction of everyone’s trust. we are not here to judge. we are here to help

so allow us to present, britain’s best castles and country houses for hosting your own traitors complete with proper turrets, a dining table with space to spare and plenty of dark corners for muderous deeds

BYO cloaks and banishment at breakfast strongly encouraged

comment ❤️ and we’ll send you the full list

Dispatches from Newfoundland, captured by @bethsquire for our ‘Islands’ issue (a special t0th anniversary publication that celebrated island escapes across the globe). Found at the edge of Canada, this is a history-and-wildlife-packed oasis for nature-lovers.

You can pick up the Islands mag to read the full story, and more than 20 others (or order it as part of a back issue bundle), over on the Lodestars website - link in bio.

‘Sitting by the water with my sandwiches, I promised myself that I’d come back to Newfoundland once more. After all, I hadn’t even made it to the west coast, one of only two places on Earth where its mantle is exposed. For now though, I was perfectly content watching three small furry heads dart about the river, seemingly aware of just how lucky they were to call this wonderland home.’

North Europe is calling.

Spend your days grilling outdoors, wandering in the woods, paddling into the sunset, and taking it all in from a mirror sauna.

In Estonia, we call them valged ööd. White nights.

The few weeks each year when the sun in Northern Europe forgets to set.

When bedtime becomes negotiable, dinner turns into a midnight swim, and adventure gets a few extra hours.

If you're going to experience white nights, do it properly.

For the ones that want to wild swim and sauna, or just soak up the view with a glass of something good in the hot tub.

What an awesome project this one has been, and such a beautiful build, taking inspiration from Japanese domestic architecture and local agricultural precedents. Congratulations to @architects.holiday and @built.works and huge thank you to @bethsquire for your expert advice and teamwork in bringing this project to life, it was great to work alongside you for this one.

Your own sauna, good coffee and a proper shower. We do off-grid a little differently.
