Took another trip down memory lane with Mike Steele’s @quiver_cast surfing podcast. We spoke about golden days working on surf mags, surfers on tour back in my ASP @wsl years, passing along this passion to my daughter @gypsyjamesfaen and more recently helping @awalkonwater and those needing more support via #surftherapy Always grateful for the chance to share some stoke, so if you’re wanting to have a listen link is in my bio 🤙

Sending love to my Godfather Josh, wherever his spirit is soaring now 🙏
Looking through some old photos always brings home how quickly the years and beautiful memories pass, and dear people in our lives too.
Josh was a character, and enriched my life when I was a kid with a witty sense of humor and suggestions I should not take everything so seriously. As a teenager straight out of high school and Australia, he gave me shelter in San Francisco, and I’ll always remember coming home there with tales of the homeless people I’d talk to on the streets, and how that year of my life really had a profound effect on my outlook beyond. Then later as editor at Surfing magazine in SoCal, I drove up to visit him when his beautiful daughter @mica.annis was born, but it was only after I’d gone out to get a tattoo did he then decide I was fit to be her Godfather 🙏
I’m grateful @gypsyjamesfaen got to meet him as a baby, and her mom @jessiesamedi too that special trip to Oregon… and just wish there were a lot more photos in my albums and time to laugh and hug.
Thanks for being you, and filling my heart with lots of the good stuff 🤟

10 years of walking away from a dark, isolated place within myself, towards a lighter reality, supported by so much love 🙏
I haven’t done anything perfect, but am humbled by people who share smiles and struggles, you keep me inspired 🙂
Got to celebrate with some very special people yesterday, and am truly grateful.

Mixed emotions seeing G go off to 7th Grade… the start of High School, as I knew it back then in Australia.
So proud of her and grateful she loves learning with dear friends, plus discovering new teachers and classes.
Reminded me how fast this journey is progressing, yet the many years in between. Thanks to old photos, can even recall my younger brother Eli’s first day at Narrabeen High….
We were just kids, like her and much younger brother Wilde are now. Still innocent, but knocking on the door of mischief, figuring things out, and feeling the pangs of puberty blues and self.
Such a privilege to share time and space with this special girl though. She makes parenting easy, and life so much sweeter. We got lucky, and I’m sure the stars above will continue to shine on ✨

Grateful for this new year and chance to share some happy snaps of @lauriefaen from our time together back home, down under 😊🙃
Pop was there to pick us up, drive us tirelessly up and down the East Coast of Australia, constantly share dad jokes, take photos of everything, fix anything, and be an amazing grandfather to @gypsyjamesfaen, Ginger and Chilli… plus father to @elifaen @koko.faen and myself.
I don’t get to see him enough, or always eye to eye, but sure do value him, his love, and beautiful example of how to be a caring, great person and forever big kid 🙏🤟

Drive by visit to this lifelong mate and his clan. Our families have been hanging together for decades since we were groms, so here’s hoping our kids have the same good fortune ahead 🤟

35 years ago this classic Aloha Quad shaped by Greg Clough, for one of the best young surfers at Narrabeen then - Brett Warner @warnersurfboards became my treasured board.
I loved it, and the Mango decals which made me feel closer to being a better/sponsored kid myself.
Somehow over the years it remained safely stashed, despite multiple moves into different family homes, and then a lifetime of travels with other boards under my feet.
When Gypsy was younger and just starting to ride some waves, she posed alongside it for my entertainment.
Yesterday though, it all came full circle when we both paddled this 5’ gem out and rekindled this old special board 🤙🤙

@gypsyjamesfaen was invited into a special ‘Grom’ expression session at Malibu in two weeks, which is an amazing chance to surf the classic (and always crowded) wave with just 9 other kids in the water for an hour!

It’s part of @awalkonwater for kids with autism to help them have the opportunity to surf too, in conjunction with @northernlaboardriders
