There’s something powerful about being back with the people and the mission that shaped so much of my life and work.

This weekend in Vegas, celebrating @teachforamerica 35th anniversary, I kept thinking about the power of us and what collective action makes possible for kids.

TFA wasn’t just an important chapter in my life. It was the beginning of my career, the place where I found my people, and the starting point for work I’m still doing today (alongside many of the same people!) in service of the same mission 20 years later.

We challenged one another, believed alongside one another, laughed, and pushed each other’s thinking. We built relationships that have lasted across roles, organizations, and years. And even after time apart, reconnecting felt like no time had passed.

Most importantly, we were reminded that this work has never been done alone.

So much has changed since many of us first found our way to TFA…our jobs, lives, perspectives, and understanding of what it takes to create the future every child deserves. My own path has taken me from the classroom in NYC to work that asks how we ensure all people have equal access to the future at @asugsvsummit, and now to helping build @bett_show USA around the belief that every educator should have access to and be able to effectively implement the best of what’s possible in learning.

In some ways, the work looks completely different than it did 20 years ago. In the ways that matter most, it doesn’t.

The mission remains: one day, all children will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education and the foundation they need to learn, lead, and thrive.

The power of us isn’t nostalgia. It’s the collective commitment, courage, and care we bring to the work, and what becomes possible for kids when we come together in service of something bigger than any one of us. We’re still showing up ❤️
