📚 Three in the last three 📚

💬 What are the three books that you cannot wait to read in the last three months of the year?

I was originally tagged by @susiesbookreviews to share my four in the last four but I missed the boat so sharing my last three! And also thanks to @amyslockdownlibrary who also tagged me too and reminded me of this fun book challenge.

So here are the three we can't wait to read:

📖 The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

📖 The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin

📖 The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman

💬 Have you read any of these?

Hugs,
Lucy & me x
P.S. join in the challenge!

Yes ⭐️ No 🚫 Maybe 🤷🏼‍♀️

🌟 YES - a book that surprised you!
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

We read this book many years ago and it's still one I remember that had a big impact on me, beautifully written, it was a deeply powerful and intense coming of age book in a format (through letters) that we really enjoyed.
5 🌟 read for us.

🚫 No - a book that disappointed you (unpopular opinion alert!)
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

This isn't about this specific book per se but more our struggle to read and enjoy classics such as Jane Austen, I've tried a number and find the prose a challenge to engage with, yet weirdly I can enjoy a TV/Film adaptation better and have enjoyed it. So for us, I think it's the language.

🤷🏼‍♀️ Maybe - a book that you think might be 5🌟
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Bookstagram made us do it! We've seen Holly's books A LOT and it sounds right up our street, and if it does live up to our expectations I'm excited to know it's a series 👐

💬 What's you "yes, no, maybe" reads❓

Thanks to the lovely @laurenemma.bookgarden who inspired this post today and we've tagged a few of you in case you wish to join in.

Oodles, Lucy & me x
P.S. swipe left to see the books and Lucy close up!
P.P.S there was a "so" in this challenge for a book that everyone loves that you might not - because I didn't have one of these on my bookshelves.

Under the Whispering Door by @tjklunebooks (#61 in 2021)

Wallace Price is dead and when he goes to attend his own funeral in full denial, a reaper takes him away to a tea shop for some healing. Hugo, the tea shop’s owner, is a ferryman, helping souls safely cross over into the afterlife, and he seeks to help Wallace as well.

“We live and we breathe. We die, and we still feel like breathing. It’s not always the big deaths either. There are little deaths, because that’s what grief is… You think I’m a prisoner here. That I’m trapped, that you’re trapped. And in a way, maybe we are. But I can’t quite call it a prison when there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”

Let that quote sell you on this book. It’s exactly the same charm and powerful language you’d expect of Klune, but this book has a touch of bittersweet heartbreak.

“Children are different. Their connections to life are stronger. They live with their whole hearts because the don’t know how else to be.”

There goes my mom heart fluttering.

“There’s beauty in the chaos, if you know where to look for it.”

My favorite Klune book is still House in the Cerulean Sea, but I’m giving this one four big stars. It’s beautiful and the ending is perfect and I will admit that I teared up multiple times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to @torbooks for sending gifted physical copies to @pocketsized_pageturner , me, and 20 of our bookish friends… and then e-galleys to more of our book friends! It was a pleasure to co-host this ARC book club with you, Steph!

✨Planning my weekend reading and this beauty is at the top of my list!

Even better, @pocketsized_pageturner and I can’t wait to discuss it with our buddy read group next week! I can barely check our chat because everyone keeps commenting about how emotionally connected they are to this book and I don’t want to hit any spoilers 😭❤️

Is this one on your TBR? Have you already read it? Just in the mood to fangirl over TJ Klune (duh)? Share some thoughts (NO SPOILERS) in the comments!

Thank you, again, to @torbooks and @tjklunebooks for providing the ARCs for this very special book club pick!

“Life is a like a book: some chapters are sad, some happy, and some exciting. But if you never turn the page, you will never know what the next chapter holds.”

6.13.21. Today I’m celebrating these precious angels—they have taught me to embrace life, to never give up on my dreams, and to spread love and kindness always. We never know where life will lead us...sometimes the path is dark, but there’s also a lot of beauty to be discovered. To the friends I’ve made on this journey, I purple you. #8yearstoinfinitywithbts

➡️ What is one of your favorite themes in books?
For me, it’s the idea of found family. There’s just something so warm and cozy and comforting knowing that you have a group of people who love you for who you are and will always be there for you. ♡⁣
