I had been thinking it was silly how tired I was this summer and yet in July, having just come back from Aberdeen we moved house, I went to celebrate a decade of @illumicrate, our French side of the family came to visit for Totoro and farm trips, we babysat our cat niblings, I went to Manchester for Love Stories (pictured on another post), visited the V&A’s accessibility exhibition with Mollie Bryan & Gaby, and watched a LOT of Love Island *chants Big 3 repeatedly*

And I’m still a month behind x

Team away week, followed by team party to celebrate 10 Years of Illumicrate. I feel so lucky to be able to have spent this time with such incredible people - what a blessing it is to call them my colleagues and friends. Here’s to many more team get togethers, parties, and all-round fun times 💕✨

Became the unofficial photographer at the @illumicrate 10 year party. What a night! Congratulations to Daphne on all you have achieved, you deserve all the great things.

Happy to be working for such a brilliant company, thank you for letting be a small part of the Illumicrate story.

Was great to see everyone all dressed up and talk to people who I have been working with for a while and actually seeing their faces in person.

when you ask an author what colour the dragon is and she says “idk, pearlescent?” 😂

It was my very great pleasure yesterday to attend the launch of @elizachanwrites’s book #Tideborn - at @waterstonesmcr completing the #Fathomfolk Duology! It was so lovely to see many friends there too including my lovely @coconutsaboutbooks , the Illumicrew, @emmasternerradley and @gambit589 although I managed to take zero photos except this selfie Eliza reminded me to take and another later with Eliza 😂 who is wearing the tiara I brought her because she is a sea queen

REVIEW
once again, a riot of emotions reading this book. Eliza weaves a world that is an ocean mirror of ours; the elements are fantastical, but the characters, situations and feelings are very real, vividly recognisable.

This is a book about aftermath: the messiness of picking up the pieces. The magical wish which was meant to avert the crisis has saved lives, but at a strange cost; as humans learn to live with gills, more factions break out, some rejecting their own selves, whilst others embrace the change. Mira struggles to steer the city towards hope and collaboration, whilst Nami leads a delegation in hope of heading off the vengeful sea titan journeying towards the city that killed its mate. Meanwhile Cordelia to her grief has been cut off from her former family, but her underworld business is yielding some surprising results.

Many themes are explored in this book: familial alienation, but also the strength of maternal love; the grief of widowhood and the struggle to escape from toxic relationships, but the sweetness and hopefulness of blossoming love. Political machinations, murder mysteries and duels to the death add excitement to the mix. But it’s the hopefulness that stayed with me!

I painted Kai - there’s a scene where his image is graffitied on a wall, and it really stuck with me. I used colour pencils and paint pens! #dragon #dragonart #fantasyart #bookpainting #bookillustration #bookart #fantasybookart #dragonpainting #waterdragon #chinesedragon #龍
