Today, as I reflect on what happened twenty five years ago... i can remember exactly where I was, as i'm sure most of us can. I am privileged enough to be in the citizens fire academy here in garland this fall. Last night, the captain spoke to us, and so poignantly reminded us that twenty five years ago last night was a day that our whole country was divided. Twenty five years ago, today was the anniversary of the day that we lost. So many americans, including over three hundred firefighters. In twenty five years ago, tomorrow is the day that our country united and stood together...

So today remember where you were and remember what our country looked like when we all came together? And also, if you had the chance, thank a hero....

Studies have proven that men in the blue collar industry die earlier than those who are in higher positions.☠️

We know some of the reasons. Stress, lack of sleep etc. Other reasons are well known as well. Port life choices.

Smoking, drinking, poor diet and no other physical activity. Those are all your choice! You choose how your life goes.

Either live a life worth living after you retire or let your sons take care of you because you wouldn't.

It's time to quit making excuses and putting the burden on people you love. Take ownership of yourself and forcing your family to take care of you later. TAKE ACTION!!

What a privilege I have had to meet two of America’s wounded warriors the past couple of weeks. Have you heard of military challenge coins? It’s an honor to be given one in a handshake with someone in our military. I received these to keep. One from Johnnie Yellock of Beyond The Burn Foundation and the other from Lew Duckwall of North Texas Patriot Anglers. Both men served our country and suffered horrendous injuries. And both have found new purpose in life from those experiences. They tell their stories in two separate episodes of my podcast, Built For This, coming soon!

July 6th, Fifteen years ago today, I was wounded when an explosive device detonated beneath our vehicle in Afghanistan while serving as a Special Operations Combat Controller. Every year since has reminded me that surviving and truly living are two very different things.

This, my 15th Alive Day, and I couldn’t feel more alive! From training and deploying beside teammates worth dying for, to now surrounded by a family worth LIVING for!

The first time I ever spoke to my wife on the phone, I told her I’d sprained my ankles on a vacation. It wasn’t until the end of our first date that I shared the rest of the story. Looking back, I still think of it as one bad day at the office. (The 💥, not the date 😆) and we’ve all had them.

What’s YOUR Alive Day? Life has given us all a second chance. Don’t take that for granted.

Here’s to another year of showing up for my family, serving a mission bigger than myself, and making the most of the time I’ve been given.
