Now that you ran @chimarathon, ready to use running in a different way? 👇 Read & Run Chicago’s signature events use the original @readandruntours format to help Chicagoans connect to the Windy City using movement and stories. WHAT? Our signature events include 3-5 mile running (or biking routes, thanks to our partner @bffbikes) routes with relevant stops related to the book inspiring that day’s event. After the route, you’ll grab snacks and goodies and either meet the author of the book, hear a lecture, or engage in social time and discussion. Routes are led by trained guides and in many cases, the authors themselves! WHEN? We run signature events by season (Fall, Winter, and Summer). We have two upcoming signature events left in our Fall 2026 season: 📆 Sunday, October 25 at @pilsencommunitybooks: Running/Biking Tour of Brown in the Windy City with Dr. Lilia Fernández 📆 Sunday, November 15 at @threeavenuesbookshop: Running Tour of Ensemble-Made Chicago COST? All signature event tickets are sold at a subsidized $35 ticket. TICKETS? Tap the link in bio for info + tickets. QUESTIONS? DM here with any questions.

📣 Tickets for our October signature event are LIVE! Join us, Dr. Lilia Fernández, @bffbikes and @icirr_il at @pilsencommunitybooks on Sunday, October 25 on for a 4-mile running tour or biking tour (s/o BFF Bikes!) exploring Mexican and Puerto Rican migration, history, and contributions in these neighborhoods inspired by Dr. Fernández’s book, Brown in the Windy City. After the route, hang with us Pilsen Community Books for snacks and book sales. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated back to ICIRR. 🚫📚 No pre-reading required before this tour—you’ll learn as you move and have the opportunity to purchase the book from Pilsen Community Books after the tour. 🚲 Not running? Bike with @bffbikes. Choose “biking tour” option at checkout. Tap the ‘Events’ link in bio for tickets. ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND GUIDE: Lilia Fernández is a historian of Latinos in the mid-to-late 20th century United States with a focus on Chicago. Her first book, Brown in the Windy City: Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in Postwar Chicago, documented the migration and settlement of these two populations in the city’s central neighborhoods and the communities they formed. She has published various essays, articles, and book chapters that span urban history, labor and working-class dynamics, and educational activism. Currently, she is working on a book manuscript that continues examining Latino Chicago history, especially its class dynamics, industrial workers, and cross-ethnic activism and expressions of solidarity. 👟 This Fall 2026 signature events season—signature events are hosted using original @readandruntours format—we’re exploring the theme “Chicago Between the Lines,” the histories and communities that made an impact, but aren’t always acknowledged in our city’s mainstream narrative.

We love running, but we also celebrate Chicago using movement and stories in so many ways. When I founded Read & Run Chicago in 2021, we had a single program: the book-themed guided run where stories take place followed by author Q&As, book sales, and more—the original @readandruntours format I developed. Five years later, we still host those events—here we call them signature events!—but we also made room for cyclists to join, volunteer across the city, open Little Free Libraries, bring Chicagoans together for reading nights, book swaps, and more, support a team of first-time marathoners, and along the way promote and support libraries, indie bookstores, and other small businesses. And we’re always in motion! Stay tuned for what’s to come. Tap the ‘Events’ link in bio to join in whatever way is right for you. ❤️ Thank you for being here and I can’t wait to see you soon. Xoxo, Allison, Founder @allison_b_yates
