Attended the ribbon cutting and grand re-opening of the Dudley S Taft Boys & Girls Club in Avondale today. I’m extremely honored to be a Board Of Trustee for the @bgccincinnati. We recently completed a $50 Million Capital Campaign and this grand re-opening is one of many projects that are changing the lives of the youth in our community! 🙌🏼

Cincy! Whitney and I would love for you to join us for @therisnerupfoundation’s Evening of Impact on Monday, November 16th at the @mercantileimmersive!

Throughout my career, The Risner Up Foundation has been an incredible way to give back to the communities that have lifted me up. We’re blessed to call Cincinnati home and we’re excited to continue growing that mission here.

Risner Up provides resources and support to those in need, helping communities rise together. Whether we’re supporting Special Olympics, bringing a little joy to someone battling cancer, providing meals and school supplies to students at inner-city schools in Cincy, or supporting families navigating complex medical needs - we’re grateful for every opportunity to be a conduit for good.

We’re incredibly excited to pour back into this community. Your support helps us keep showing up, spread kindness, and sharing God’s love through service. 🙏

Tickets are available at the link in my bio. See you on 11/16! 🧡

We had the BEST time hanging out, playing basketball, and giving out school supplies and backpacks at the Boys & Girls Club in Newport, KY! 🧡

Getting to spend time with these kids, pour into our community, and help kick off the school year is what it’s all about. So grateful we got to be a small part of such a fun day! 🏀📚🎒

Recently, we finished up the 6th week of our Gun Violence Prevention program with children at South Avondale School . We partnered with South Avondale School and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati for the six week program where the children used the drum as a tool and learned about building trust, earning respect, self-awareness, and emotion regulation through the HealthRHYTHMS intervention. The children received certificates, pencils, and mini drum necklaces and enjoyed cupcakes and treats. Thank you to the City Of Cincinnati Human Services Department for funding this program.

Healing, connection, and community are at the heart of our work. ❤️

We recently kicked off a six-week, trauma-sensitive @remohealthrhythms program focused on Gun Violence Prevention in South Avondale. This program is designed to help teens build trust and respect, navigate anger and emotions, strengthen conflict resolution skills, and experience the support of their community.

A special thank you to our partners, South Avondale School and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati for making this program possible. The sessions are co-facilitated by Sharon Alati, MSW, LISW, LICDC, and our CEO and founder, Arlene de Silva. This customized HealthRHYTHMS program was developed with the assistance of Barry Bittman, MD, the innovator of HealthRHYTHMS.

We’re grateful to everyone helping create safe spaces where young people can learn, connect, and thrive.

As a teenager, Gyp Banks was searching for stability and direction. Through @bbbs_cincinnati, he was matched with his mentor, David, who helped him find both.

Together, they attended sporting and arts events through MVK, experiences that reinforced a lesson Gyp now shares often: exposure matters. When young people are given the chance to see more of the world, they begin to see more for themselves.

Today, Gyp is a Workforce Development Coordinator with the @bgccincinnati, a mentor to local teens, and a student at the University of Cincinnati pursuing a degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology. His long-term goal is to become a therapist, helping young people navigate some of life’s most challenging seasons.

His leadership, service, and commitment to helping others recently earned him one of MVK’s Student Impact Awards at our 20th Anniversary Celebration, providing additional support as he continues pursuing his goals.

Watch Gyp’s story and see the lasting impact of mentorship, opportunity, and someone believing in your potential.

There’s something special about getting photos of our construction team at work, then looking back once the space is fully in use.

At the Boys & Girls Club in Price Hill, those behind-the-scenes moments are now part of a bigger story: a space serving kids, teens, and the neighborhood every day.

This Summer at Garden of Joy! ♥️

After wrapping up our first afterschool season, we are getting ready for a full summer of cooking, gardening, field trips, community meals, youth programming, and more.

This summer, students will be back in the kitchen, deeper in the garden, and out in the community. As always, our program is free for students, and enrollment will open in June.

Right now, one of our biggest needs is volunteers.

We are looking for mentors, kitchen helpers, garden helpers, choice board leaders, and caring adults who want to help create a welcoming space where young people can learn, grow, connect, and feel at home.

We also have a few ways you can help us get ready:

May 20 & May 27
Kitchen Clean-Up Days
12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

May 23
Final Planting Day + Garden Party
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
No RSVP needed. Stop by anytime.

June 19
Juneteenth Food Festival
4:00 PM - 9:00 PM

We are also excited to share that fresh greens and herbs are growing at Garden of Joy, our summer merch line is on the way, and our Garden of Joy tea blends will be available online for local pickup soon.

A special thank you to @glassnowco for generously sending jars to help us package our tea blends beautifully and sustainably.

And a huge thank you to all of our partners who continue to help make this work possible. Your support, generosity, and belief in our young people allow us to keep growing and keep showing up.

Ready to volunteer or support the work?

With love & gratitude,
The Garden of Joy Team ♥️

Spring hockey success! 🏒🥅 This is the final week of our inaugural youth @nhlstreet hockey league at Sawyer Point. As we play our last games of the spring season, we want to thank Cincy Parks for supporting this effort, as well as our Hockey Director Jim Colville and our crew of volunteer coaches and referees. We’ve seen the players build friendships, learn hockey fundamentals, and begin to practice positional play. They started the season on the pavement and finished on a painting! We’ve come so far, so quickly. Well done everyone 🏆Finally, shoutout to @bluejacketsnhl and @drinkbodyarmor for the player awards. We appreciate all of the people and partners that made our first youth street hockey league a special experience for the players.

Sign ups for our summer youth street hockey league are live on our website, when you can also find our schedule for street hockey pickups for teens and adults ages 13&up. Link in bio 🔗🏒

This week at Garden of Joy was full of food, joy, and community ♥️

Our students baked zucchini muffins and zucchini bread with fresh zucchini donated by @n8_mansour topped with homemade chocolate icing and @valrhona blond crunchy pearls. We also went full Cincinnati mode, making our own take on @officialskylinechili with coneys and pasta.

On Wednesday, we wrapped up our pilot program with @bgccincinnati at the Roll Hill location. Over the past few months, we had the chance to cook, learn, and build relationships with their 7th and 8th graders. We are so grateful for this opportunity and we are looking forward to continuing to support the amazing work the Boys & Girls Club does to support Cincinnati’s youth!

On Thursday, our students made custom burgers, loaded fries, and strawberry ice cream using fresh strawberries donated by @feedthesoul_charity. That same evening, community volunteers joined us in the garden, and across three program days, we served over 100 meals to students, families, and volunteers.

On Friday, 300 Dreams and @spoilsohio hosted a beautiful free concert at Mount Storm Park, where Chef @liam.c.edmiston and volunteers served free, high-quality food while the community gathered for music, connection, and support for Garden of Joy.

And on Saturday, our students, families, and staff were invited by @fccincinnati to attend the match together!

Thank you to everyone who continues to show up, share meals, volunteer, donate, and believe in this work.

Garden of Joy is only possible because of this community.
