POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Yesterday, I had a huge amount of fun talking about the books that have influenced me as a reader (and turned me into a writer!) with Jonathan Davidson, @franhill123 and @romalynante at the @bhamlitfest Readers’ Day and then listening to @svaughanauthor @winniemli and @freya_north_author talk about their formative reading experiences.

So, here are some of my all-time favourite books and some of those that have really stuck with me and influenced my own writing.

What books have been most influential to your reading or writing journey?

We've just dropped a hefty article covering the entire festival day we had recently, thanks to and a part of @bhamlitfest, for a special VERVE Sunday at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Please head over to our Substack, that you can find in our bio Linktree, to read all about the sublime range of poets and spoken word artists we had performing that day, as well as the wonderful community vibe we could all feel from being in the same shared space.

Frank Foley lived out his retirement in Stourbridge in obscurity, a very ordinary civil servant.

When his extraordinary secrets became known after his death, the people of Stourbridge ensured he would never be forgotten.

Read his remarkable story in The Berlin Passport Office.

19/10 BAB(s) OF THE WEEK
It’s been a full week since @bhamlitfest finished. It’s one of my favourite projects of the year as I get to make cool stuff, listen to cool people and learn loads as I go. @emily_onthepage and Suzie are two of the linchpins of the team, but tbh it’s a surprisingly tiny team who make it happen and they’re all great, I just happened to snap these two between authors. The only downside of @bhamlitfest is that they don’t book a celebratory lunch at the end of the festival, which i found utterly absurd, so as a self appointed honorary member the team, I will be taking on that vital role 😂. Anyway…. Emily and Suzie you were dreamy neighbours and colleagues for 5 days and you looked lush in your #booksbab ‘s … thank you for having me… you are this weeks Bab(s) of the Week!

A whole year ago, I put a call out on social media to see if anyone would be interested in joining an R&B choir and @singoutoftrouble was born! What an incredible year it has been 🥹

We had the honour of performing my song (WYWB) with poet @misslizberry for @bhamlitfest, in the most beautiful setting.

So grateful to Liz for inviting us to be part of such a special evening and for falling in love with this song 💜

From a little idea to moments like this. So proud of how far we’ve come, and this is only the beginning.

Yesterday was the official handover for the Birmingham Poet Laureate and Young Birmingham Poet Laureate at @bhamlitfest - what a lovely time. Thank you @ayanmoaden for being the best. Cheers to all my friends and family that turned out for it. And a big thank you and apology to anybody who came to the gig in the evening in which I lay on the floor and performed a new poem about pilates (I am not trained). Bright days ahead. I love my job!
