Summer has a habit of giving us huge abundance at once.

This month's Culture Club is about getting ahead and making the most of it.

We'll be exploring simple fermented sauces and condiments, fermenting oats, and I'll share a few stories and ideas from what I learned about fermentation while spending time in the Amazon.
Small skills that can make a big difference in the kitchen.

🍽️ Everyone has something to bring to the table.

🌍 For many adults in Europe, traditional classrooms can feel like places where they don't belong. Language barriers, cultural differences or past experiences can make education seem out of reach. But food is something we all understand.

🍓 The #FoodIncludes Erasmus+ project is working with over 100 disadvantaged students from adult education centres in 7 European countries.

👩‍🍳 Together with over 35 educators, they are participating in food-based learning activities: creating food festivals, building cooperatives, writing recipe books… And, along the way, they are developing confidence, community connections and skills —from digital literacy💻 to entrepreneurship📗 and sustainability awareness🌱— to build a better future.

Data is being collected and the findings will be published in an empirical research report submitted to peer-reviewed academic journals.

Meanwhile, you can check out these free online educational resources (OER)!➡️ https://foodincludes.eu/food-as-a-path-to-inclusion/

🤝 Food Includes partners are: @eucen_lifelonglearning (Belgium), @biainnovator (Ireland), @unimainz (Germany), European E-learning Institute (Denmark), Kariera (Poland), @cebanc (Spain) and @solidaritatub.

Food Includes is a #free, open suite of facilitator-ready resources designed to help educators use food (festivals, markets, recipes, food drives, cultural traditions, and shared meals) as a vehicle for inclusion, belonging, and skill-building.

Each OER (Online Educational Resource) reflects a growing recognition that learning is most powerful when it is rooted in real-life, hands-on, community-based practice.

The resources respond to a clear gap in adult and community education: while many programmes aim to support marginalised adults, fewer give educators structured, ready-to-deliver tools that combine practical activity with entrepreneurial, digital and social-emotional learning.

Food Includes addresses this by providing flexible, modular pathways that connect these areas through the universal language of food.

A kitchen can be more than a place to cook.

It can be a classroom.
A meeting place.
A space for confidence-building.
A place where cultures meet.

Every shared cooking activity creates opportunities for conversation, learning, and connection.

Can food help people reconnect with learning?

Food Includes ( www.foodincludes.eu ) is a European project exploring exactly that.

By using food-based activities, we aim to create more inclusive pathways into adult education, helping people build skills, confidence, and community connections.

Food is something we all understand. That's what makes it such a powerful tool for engagement.
