A little update for a dear friend 🌸

Brought the regrowth up with a full scalp bleach, then toned what was left to shift the color from a bright coral to this lovely pink and icy ghost root.

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD PRODUCTS!!!

i posted a story earlier about the effects of bad hair care but i think it deserves a post.

this is my beautiful client i had today, she had basically all natural hair and it appeared to be in top condition.

she uses super market shampoo and conditioner which makes her hair feel “great”…

that glossy feeling is a layer that is coating your hair, meaning when coming into contact with chemicals such as bleach it has a chemical reaction resulting in uneven lift, and in unfortunate cases, damaged hair.

on the last slides you’ll see the lift that it had lifted too after noticing the bleach in the foil was expanding and becoming very hot. whilst it might not of been a bad result today that doesn’t mean it won’t be next time if this client or YOU, keep using that super market product.

A new shape, a second life. 🪻

A little upcycling, but with hair. I really enjoyed working with her existing grown out pink and lavender, using the cut to give the colour a new look without having to redo it. The focus was on keeping the silhouette soft and feminine, while adding enough texture and movement to make the most of the faded tones.

A little silver and emerald magic 💚

We kept the length through the back, took some weight out of the sides, and shaped the fringe to bring this textured mullet together. I love how the green moves through the silver.

Lyndal and I go back to 2004. She was a student at BIBA and I was a student of life, fresh off the boat from England at 21 and falling fairly spectacularly on my face. Somewhere along the way, I found ‘my people’ in passionate, punkish outliers like Lyndal, and we found our way together, fuelled by lunchtime tequila shots and a shared appetite for doing things differently.
Our professional paths have continued to cross in curious ways over the past 20 years. We’ve both built long careers within our respective brands BIBA and TONI&GUY, become Wella ANZ ambassadors, taken on the reign as FAME Team Creative Directors, collected a few awards along the way and shared many a pint and a yarn in our local neighbourhood of Fitzroy.

But what sits underneath us is a shared belief in a more authentic and braver creativity, and a desire to help the next generation of hairdressers find their own voice.

So I caught up with Lyndal, picked her brain, and extracted some of the wisdom that seems to follow her around. As anyone who knows her will tell you, there’s usually plenty of it.

Hiiii! 👋 If we haven’t met before, I’m Jen and if we have, hello to you too 😁.

So, after years of obsessing over and maintaining my own hair... I’ve decided it’s time to start obsessing over and maintaining other people’s too. 🤷‍♀️

I’m currently studying barbering at Biba Academy, with plans to move into hairdressing next, and I’m very excited to be getting some real-world salon experience at Bonnie & Clyde's in Bairnsdale along the way too. ✂️

I have a particular penchant for widow’s peaks... In case the Instagram name and bio didn’t already give that away. 😏

I’ve also been a little slack with my socials, so there’s a decent backlog of my learning, progress and salon adventures coming soon. Watch this space! 👀
