Discover Collins Big Cat books that reflect a diverse readership and provide visibility and representation for all our readers. #GoAllIn2026

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Even though my books are packed with chaos and madness, there are plans too.
Lots of lesson plans and all sorts of resources for every book. All created by much cleverer (and less chaotic) people than myself.

So why not go one step beyond reading these and investigate what else you can do.

Coding is a valuable skill that can open doors to a wide range of opportunities 💻

This National Coding Week, discover the amazing work of coders like Alexandra Ruddick from @wise_ypc, in case studies created to support the Big Cat Tara Binns series.

In Tara Binns: Creative Coder, Tara Binns finds herself working on coding and design for a computer game! The team have discovered that someone is hacking the game and some gamers have been losing their high scores. Does it have something to do with the rivalry between the coding and design teams? And can Tara help them to realise their individual skills and work together to complete the game development?

Featuring stories from the Collins Big Cat collection, aimed at KS1 readers, the new grid sets have been designed specifically for AAC users, creating more opportunities to take part in reading, storytelling and shared conversations.

From wordless stories to early-reader titles, each book includes accessible activities and built-in communication partner support to help learners explore literacy in different ways.

Available now in Grid. Learn more about the collection in our blog at link in bio.

Absolutely delighted that one of my favourite booky people and supreme librarian has enjoyed my wartime tale.
This little book means a lot to me and knowing that good Tyneside folk are reading it means even more.
Thank you, Sharleene ☺️

• @shazzycushing_librarian I FINALLY got to read ‘When the War Comes In’ by fellow geordie & library legend, Chris Callaghan, with wonderful illustrations by Isabella Grott.

My favourite genre is historical fiction & I do also love it when a book is set in my local town of Newcastle so this one ticked all the boxes from the beginning!

Set during WW2, the shipyard at the end of Jack’s street is currently home to a warship called HMS Warspite and it’s in need of repair. The workers at the yard including Jack’s dad are proud to take on the job.

The book covers war & the emotions it brings, football, friendship, family & most importantly, the idea that working together is our greatest strength.

Absolutely loved it & can’t wait to chat to the kids at school about it! 🙂📚

Lovely to meet families at Meadowbank @falkirklibraries to help launch the @readingagency summer reading challenge ‘read to the beat’ with a sound and music author event, thanks to the @scottishbooktrust!

There are more events and music crafts at all the @falkirklibraries throughout the summer holidays. Good luck with the reading challenge!

Tomorrow it's the @harpercollinsuk author party! Hooray! I've written exactly 30 @bigcatbookslikeme books. In March this year, 'The Black Shuck' came out - an anthology of engaging, thought-provoking KS3 texts (fully decodable) - I worked on 'Your Brain Explained' (a quiz) and 'The Sharpest Shooters' (a graphic novel) Looking forward to catching up with the Collins and @littlewandlecode teams!

Who else is going to be there ?! Please come and say hello!

🎉 What a way to start the week!

We're thrilled to welcome Professor Teresa Cremin CBE to today's Little Wandle Champion School Conference. And, as we celebrate our fifth birthday this year, it feels even more special! 🧡

Today, colleagues from our 31 Champion Schools are coming together to share expertise, reflect on what's working in schools and help shape even more support and opportunities for all Little Wandle members.

If you're joining us today and sharing highlights from the conference, we'd love to see them - don't forget to tag us in your posts!

Had a lovely week working with schools in @glasgowlifelibraries for @glascifest. The whoopee cushion orchestra Star Wars theme tune was a hit 🎶

This was my first week doing a new author event called ‘sound and music’. It’s about the physics of sound and the science behind musical instruments. With volunteer opportunities and some interactive group science demos and little bits of readings from a book I wrote called ‘What is sound?’ and a song about being yourself - and how that makes teams and bands better - when we’re all different but working together.

I so hoped the children would enjoy it but I was a little nervous ahead of the first ever ‘sound and music’ event. Thankfully, two teachers came up after to say it was one of the best events they’ve ever been to - phew! Then another teacher came over to say the same thing. Then two librarians came over to say it. At that point I got worried it was too educational - because the adults seemed to love it so very much 😆 but thankfully the children seemed to really like it too.

Huge thanks to the Glasgow science festival, the library team (especially Kevan carrying my stuff on the long walk!) and to the @scottishbooktrust for funding the events.

I met over 200 brilliant children at four different libraries, so good to meet you:
Corpus Christi Primary at Knightswood Library
St Joseph’s at Woodside library
Cleeves Primary and St Bernards Primary at Pollok library
St Brides primary at Govanhill Library

Got photos by the lovely displays the libraries made for the events too.

Also so good to catch up with @sarasheridanwriter for dinner and @teresalowe293 for coffee and cake 🥰
