I learnt this lesson early on the hard way in my jiujitsu journey. Trying to figure everything out all at once led me to more burn outs and injuries than the actual sport itself. Since I’ve mostly coached women (although im open and available for coed teaching, seriously guys im fr don’t be scared) I often emphasize that sensitivity is a gift and being deeply IN YOUR BODY is a superpower for jiujitsu. As a coach, when someone gets stuck in a positional issue I ask them questions like: • where is there space for you to move? • what’s preventing you from getting to your side? Problem solving gets to INCLUDE body awareness.
