Saturday was a special day. A memorial for Will in Hutch. He was one of my first heroes. A role model since 8th grade. To be among his family, our friends, in the town we knew like the back of our hand riding dirt bikes then beat up pintos and civics was a reward for my heart I knew I needed and was afraid would be too heavy. It wasn’t. We held on both to his spirit and each other.

Rest in peace, Will. We will keep you in our memories and work forever.

Give Nizar a big hug and a ‘chorizoooo!’ for me.

Kansas has totally redeemed itself! After a 70 mile ride from Larned to Hutchinson, I arrived at a “church-bike-hostel”, a spot that I’ve been told to go to by a few west bounders, but the doors were locked, nobody was home, and I didn’t want to sleep in another city park.. so I sat on the front steps feeling a little defeated. Sat there for about 30min, when all of a sudden a ‘bike and brew’ bicycle gang strolled past me. A few of them shouted at me to join them, and I didn’t hesitate to slip right into a new side quest.
5 bars later, corn hole, live music, and big family dinner, nobody allowed me to pay for anything. Food, beer, covered all night - such a generous crowd <3 so much fun!
Matt and his wife, Tina, were also quick to offer me a place to stay in their beautiful home, where they fed me blueberry and peanut butter pie.
*drools*
They set me up in their basement: delicious shower? Check. A comfy bed to sleep in for the next two nights? Check! Decided to take a rest day here.
This morning, they made me coffee and cooked me breakfast. Their backyard is so green and serene. Feeling like a king. Off to explore Hutchinson today, but I have to make it back by 6 o’clock for the weekly Sunday pizza and ice cream party. 🤣
