POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Missing lots of regulars today (which is partly my fault for being so disorganised for the first time in years 🙈) but still a LOVELY turnout on such short notice for the latest @40_plus_bjj_open_mat in South Wales and South West England! 🙌

But the joy didn't end there.... the lucky attendees were treated with some technique by not one, not two but THREE OG's from the South West BJJ and Judo scene - @chivsboom and @stuartkingston with some lovely details on collar drags and @gozezu for a lovely transition from side control, leading to armbars, wrist locks, omoplatas and everything else inbetween! Many thanks guys - it felt like Jiu Jitsu Con this afternoon! . We were also blessed to have other OG's like Ian Rossiter and Richard Weatherall on the mats 🙌

Many thanks to @sweatboxgymbristol @@pedrobessabjj for letting us use their awesome mat space and a big shout out to @tomshowlerbjj for putting up with my last minute nagging!

We raised £106 on the day, and I've just had another £20 sent to me this evening, so, so far we've raised £126 for RISE Community Jiu Jitsu, today's chosen good cause, with hopefully some more donations on the way! Also, for those attendees that wanted to support RISE Community Jiu Jitsu but couldn't today, send me a private message and I'll give you my bank details and make sure the money gets to them 👍. Be great if you can, but no worries if not, as it's entirely voluntary as always 🙏

But I will say this... I don't feel that I (not we, as the attendees were awesome as always) did the lovely mat space or more importantly RISE justice....so we are COMING BACK sometime in the new year!!!

In the meantime, we've got TWO MORE Open Mats to squeeze in before Christmas and both will be very special ones..... watch this space 👀. The first of them will be late September / Early October!

(2nd attempt as first post got deleted?!)

Just a few snaps from our latest @40_plus_bjj_open_mat in South Wales and South West England on Sunday 19th April 👊

A great day was had at @hangarhpc - missing a lot of regular faces but pleased to welcome a lot of new ones too! 🙏

Many thanks to Fay, the matriarch of @hangarhpc for letting us use her great venue, and for staying open an hour later to accommodate us 🙌

Also thanks to the man himself @brauner.luis for giving up his time, and demonstrating a lovely guard passing sequence from standing all the way to side control or taking the back. Luis and I have worked together for years in various jiu jitsu comps, but it's the first time I've been able to share the mats with him properly - and I'm glad he didn't kill me lol! 🤣

Finally, massive thanks to all that attended, old and new! We raised £130 for the Hangar Community Hub 🙏 As I always say, this community would be nothing with you!

Just 4 days to go till our next @40_plus_bjj_open_mat in South Wales / South West England and I'm pleased to announce that we will be supporting @sarcoma_uk 🙏

Remember - we never charge a mat fee for our @40_plus_bjj_open_mat - instead, we ask the hosting gym to choose a charity or good cause to support by way of voluntary donation from the attendees.

@sarcoma_uk is a national charity that funds vital research and offers information and support to anyone affected by sarcoma. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that can appear anywhere in the body.
Every day, 15 people are diagnosed with sarcoma in the UK. That’s about 5,300 people a year.

There are two main types of sarcoma:

soft tissue sarcoma
bone sarcoma (also known as primary bone cancer)

You can find more information at:

https://sarcoma.org.uk/about-sarcoma/what-is-sarcoma/

This Sunday we are at @dragonsacademy_ in Aberdare between 12:00 and 15:00! If you haven't yet signed up.... what are you waiting for?!! Had on over to;

I'm pleased to announce that our next @40_plus_bjj_open_mat in South Wales and South West England will be at @element22martialarts in Street on Sunday 10 August 2025 between 12:00 and 15:00! 🙌

Element22 Martial Arts Academy is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Martial Arts Academy in the heart of Somerset. If you have ever considered trying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, Sambo or are simply looking for an enjoyable and engaging way to get in shape they would love to hear from you!

At Element22 they welcome students of all ages and abilities; catering to every individual’s goals - be it fitness, confidence building, self defence or competition training.

They have an excellent reputation in the world of competition; producing National and World champion athletes. They also pride themselves on the reputation they have gained for being a friendly, supportive family run academy, which makes everyone who steps through their doors, feel welcome and valued.

This is our furthest venture down South West England to date - but don't let that put you off! This is why we always start at 12:00 - to allow plenty of time to travel - and we always strive to make it worth your while to attend! The boys from @element22martialarts have been super supportive over the years and have an absolute wealth of experience!!

Swapped the sidelines for the crowd at @enyograppling last night!

✅ Signs held high
✅ Voice totally gone
✅ Tom Hardy mildly inconvenienced
10/10 would recommend.

There’s something really special about watching a show you’ve seen grow from day one — and seeing how far the athletes and the sport have come.

Women’s grappling needs more nights like this — where the spotlight’s on the athletes, the crowd is loud, and every moment counts.

It needs more people showing up, making noise, and backing these incredible women as they push the sport forward.

Because when we all show up, we help create a future where women’s grappling gets the recognition, respect, and support it truly deserves.

Congratulations to @josiekelseybjj, @rachelb.bjj and everyone at @enyograppling working SO hard behind the scenes to create such a fantastic show for us all to enjoy.

Here’s to many more nights like this — because women’s grappling deserves nothing less. 💖
